BMW messed up my order

I have on order a 335 e93 and just completed production. The dealer calls me today morning and tells me sorry, we made a big mistake. They put auto tranny instead of manual, and was a mix up on the computers. I was pissed, i started yelling and told him, I don't want the car, and he said we will not charge you for the auto tran. I was like what??? I didn't even ask for it, you best not charge me for that shit. So I told him to take off 2000 more dollars. HE talked to his manager and accpted 1500 discount. I feel fucked but yet I feel o.K getting a brand new in the market 60,000 msrp for about 55,500. WHat are your guys thoughts?

They better give you the paddles free too.

The AT isn't bad at all, but I guess you're one of those MT or bust kinda people. It's up to you to wait or take it if you really don't mind. It's a heck of a deal, though.

take it in stride?? Lol THEY messed up the order. Its not about getting a "free" auto tranny, its about getting the car the way HE wanted/ ordered it.

Couldn't agree more, you are paying $55K+ for your choice of car, not just taking anything off the lot.

I was afraid the same thing happening to my order back in December.

I order a manual and a bunch of other options. I double checked, and triple checked with my sales guy, told him and the assembly guys to making sure EVERYTHING is right (down to the walnut trim), even if it means taking longer than usual.

P.S. For myself, I would not have taken the auto and I would have preferred to wait another three (3) months instead. Tell the sales guy and the BMW dealer that you don't pay $55k+ for mistakes.

I would have been angry in your position. However, thankfully for you and most of us all is not lost. The steptronic transmission is very nice - many are starting to say the step is faster than the manual assuming the driver isn't Mario Andretti.

Thats rough...all that time spent waiting only to have them mess up the order. I'm not sure how I would have handled that since the tranny is a very important item - more often than not it is a deal breaker.

If I guess you accept the vehicle - I hope you grow fond of the steptronic - I have ...and I drove MT cars for quite some time, I don't miss it so much.

If you ordered a MT ...you deserve a new production vehicle with a MT and your deposit back.

if you can live with the auto.....i guess its cool....but if you can't ehhhhh, i'd say something now.......i wanted an manual when shopping for a car, but they only had autos. so, when i got my 325i with auto step.....i thought i could live with it....but i couldn't...just wasn't for me.....so when i traded it in for a 335i it was manual for me only

hey at least most reviews say this might be the one BMW to get the Auto instead of the manual cause the auto is so smooth and so quick...plus you will be faster than a manual and my STI buddy who loves stick...it is his passion and HATES auto says the auto in the 335 is 95% as fun as the manual and i never ever thought i would ever hear him mutter those words with excitement no less!!!!!!!sry though i know how manual drivers love their stick!!!! no pun intended

I've driven a manual for all my life and love it but I got the E93 with auto and love it. Convertibles are cars to relax and chill in.

Same thing almost happened to me at VOB BMW. Ordered the car, everthing was written up properly, but got a confirmation in the mail from the dealership that showed auto with paddle shifters. Called my CA and luckily there was still time to change it to a manual. He apologized ten times. I can not believe these CA's can not get these orders right.

Mine came in wrong from being ordered as well, but not as drastic as the OP.

I ordered with Aluminum, got it with dark wood. Saw it and and actually liked it better. They knocked off a couple hundred $$'s and everyone was happy. But again, like I had said in my previous post, wrong transmission should NOT be settled for.

when you go to owners circle and check order status... auto trans would be listed as one of the options right?

Yeah, exactly. The OC tells you what they are building, as does the Vehicle Inquiry Report they give you when you leave after ordering the car. Both should have been checked immediately to make sure the options were correct. Just because it's a BMW dealer that doesn't mean you can trust them to do something right. If you really give a shit (and you should, when ordering anything for $50K), then it's up to you to check their work and make sure they didn't screw something up. I would NEVER trust anyone to do something like data entry correctly on a purchase like this. Show me the printout of my car, and its major/minor options. Never leave anything to chance.

Now, if they printed out the order that was transmitted to BMWNA, you check it and it says 6MT, and then the car shows up with Step, you have a legitimate reason the be pissed off because you did everything you should have to make sure the car was ordered properly.

Why would u want a 6MT on a 60k car anyway?
Unless ur getting a Vette or something, i find it rather wasteful IMO.

My 350z was a 6MT, had it for 2 years and didnt miss it one bit!

To each his own i guess.

Frank ~ btw my G35 was an auto and i dont miss the transmission. though i do know the 350 and G had some problems/concerns with the manual trans.

Similar thing happened to me... discussed with the CA the specs... the whole reason i was changing from Infiniti to BMW was for the manual (i miss it). when i was leaving he ran out with the tracking # and sheet and a question...........

do you want paddle shifters ?

UH im just and unedumatecated customer and you ask me if i want paddle shifters ? oh im sorry let me get that fixed asap. paddles only come on the auto. he got it fixed no problems love the manual.

all that being said... the auto in the bmw is very close to perfection ! it makes my g35 look like a slug and even warranted me thinking about getting a bmw auto... so think about it, i wanted to get out of my g35 because i missed manual... and was thinking about the auto in the bmw. lightning quick shifts = performance = gas mileage. In the end... i went back to my roots and stuck to my initial desire... Giving my right hand something to play with while driving besides my other stick certain things i missed when i had the auto
> revin at idiot drivers (yes i had an after market exhaust)
> keeping my hands busy
> better gas mileage
> lower revs
> torque converter sometimes didnt lock up properly
> higher revs when cold (trans would not lock up till warm)
> faster shifts with the manual

most of the above do not apply to the BMW 335i auto trans which is what made it hard to decide upon.

bottom line be 100% and i mean 100% positive you want the auto or manual. your paying MSRP for the e93 so either take the auto at the discount or demand they build you a new car ~ provide discounts ~ if needed a loaner (take what they give you)

Sorry to hear about that
Was great of the dealership to offer you what is essentially 4k off when they could have just as easily said sorry we will order you a new one and sold it right off the lot.
