I fit them without cutting the sheet metal underneath, but you see I had to cut the bottom of the enclosures which adds a few millimeters to the available depth.

When I mentioned opening up the back to the outside, I meant I drilled two 2" holes in the sheet metal underneath the woofers. There already is one 2" hole there, so I have three total. This is what allows the woofers to breathe properly.
