you cant select TWO addresses if thats what youre trying to do in google? so inputting a start and end destination wont send to car! only put in one address and if google recognises it as an address only then will it let u send to your car. if that makes sense...

also what ive noticed that if you have more than 10 addresses (i think) stored in your idrive youve got to delete one or more before it will recieve any further addresses. it wont tell u that its full.... took me ages to work out why i wasnt able to receive anymore a few months ago!

But sticking your address in and sending it will mean it will give me guidance from where ever I happen to be.

weill u can definitely input full postcode in google dont know how it translates exactly when sent to car as ive never realised it to be far off in any case.

on one occasion ive sent the longitude and latitude of a location not picked up on google and it worked well

For me - I find it faster (and less tedious) to just look up the address in I drive. The BMW Connected site is very slow (why is it SO much slower than straight Google maps?), then send the address to the car, and the retrieve from the server to the car is slow too (2-3 minutes typically).

It all works, but just can't see the point when its quicker to find the address in the car.

As its free, I've used it a few times, but pay for it - no way - FAR too basic and can't really see any significant advantage

Talking Google Street View UK

Google Maps has started to implement Street View for the main UK cities from yesterday. More info here.

Here's a link to a view over Richmond Bridge.

Mapped locations will gradually increase over the next few months.

It may well help some members find the best route out of a location, eh James- give your brother a pat on the back from me, BTW.

If I registered with a UK address could Connected Drive work in Ireland? I have the Connected Drive stuff it would be a pity not to be able to use some of the features

Unfortunately not no. When I travel down to S.Ireland from the North, all the Connected Drive features become disabled. I think it only works when connected to a UK cellular network.

However it will work fine when you are up in Newry doing your shopping

Ha ha, very good 330cdsport, but that could be every week..

Are there any charges associated with using it?

I'll think I'll register anyway using a UK mobile number or does that person pick up the costs?

There are no costs at all for the first 3 years from new vehicle purchase. Then its something like a £120 per year fee. Good luck.

Just got the LCI version. It's really quite impressive:

1. Weather forecast
2. News
3. Google Maps search from the car (incredibly useful)
4. Automatic pick up of messages from PC

It's really very very good now.

Sadly, they have just ported my account rather than given me a new one. I had hoped I would get a new 3 year trial, but it looks as if I will have to pay for this from Sept next year.

Registration is via internet now:

http://www.bmw.co.uk/bmwuk/connected...ml?siteID=1312

The online terms and conditions indicate that a 3 year free trial is available for all new accounts. So if you have idrive, I strongly advise you to go for it.
