help with downpipe install

i need help guys. i am trying the DIY downpipe install buy i have an 2008 e93 and nothing looks the same as the pictures. can anyone help or should i just have a pro do it? i took the engine cover off, which was also way different than the e90 and i don't know what to do next. i doesn't look like there is anyway in hell i can get up there to remove the downpipes.

Basically i need someone to tell me how to access the downpipes on an e93 after i have removed the engine cover. thanks

It has to be done from underneath the car. It can be done with the car on jacks, but it should be done on a lift.

Get a pro to do it.

I thought about doing it myself on jackstands, but then I decided to go visit Helix and have them install them with an FMIC the same day. I would take it to a pro unless you have a lift and all the right tools. I've seen people take 6 hours who have good DIY skills, while a shop that has done several 335's can do it in about 2.5 hours.

making good progress guys. had to buy some essential tools. we'll see how it goes. like someone said, it's not rocket science but pretty cramped space. i think i'll be OK. getting that heat shield off is a pain.

What tools did you pick up? Did you get an O2 Sensor Socket?

Best of luck!

its practically the same thing as the DIY. The only difference is that theres cross bars are placed a little differently. Just remove 2 of the big bolts and you should be able to flex the bar enough to remove the bolt for the steering rack and then the DIY is the same.

no, just got longer 7/8 wrench for the O2 sensor but still don't have enough work space. once i get the heat shiled off, it should be ok. those 2 torx screws are a PITA!

they definitely arent fun to do on ramps, it can be done, i have done them but its not something you should try if your unsure, it can get very frustrating and you may end up messing something up or driving yourself crazy

i seriously doubt thats gonna fit in the space to get the sensors out, your better off buying a stubby 7/8 wrench. if it works let me know, but i dont see you having near enough space to make that work

Thanks. I bought them off the recommendation from both Scalbert and FormerBoostedIS when they did their installs.

You can't see it, but there is a cutout so it slips right over the sensor (my picture below shows it). Allows for little or no clearance past the top of the sensor.

I've since changed my mind about doing it on my bad back with jack stands. Headed to Helix for the install soon. Your east coast shop was another hour past Helix from my house. If you were closer.....

Picture from Scalbert on first post here: http://www.e90post.com/forums/showth...ighlight=crows

I used Scalberts idea and bought a Crows Foot socket to break the O2 sensor bolts and that was a piece of cake!

The socket pictured below is actually the taller one with 1/2 inch drive. In that set that I got there is one that is half as long and 3/8 inch drive. Both 22mm / 7/8 "
