okay guys. here it is....i just got back from shop replacing the (AT) tranny pan and fluid. After draining the fluid down, the tech removed the pan with integrated filter. The old fluid is dark like its supposed to...After 135k. But he told me that the two ring magnet inside the pan doesnt have a single sign of metal shavings or gunk, meaning no signs of burning or anything abnormal.
After draining as much as he can out of the tranny (except whatever is left from the torque converter) he replaced it with new tranny pan with the integrated filter. (refer to www.realoem.com) Then filled it up 50% new and 50% old ATF. RESULT: -Tranny shifts smoother -no more worries for me at least for another 100K -im a happy camper. |

Use this for ATF maintenance intervals. Do not rely on seat-of-the-pants diagnosis such as "It smelled bad" or "It looked horrible". See page 3 |

For those of you who have AT be sure to use ONLY the manufacturer recommended ATF and nothing else. Failure to do so will result in AT slippage/failure. This rule applies to ALL auto tranny and not just BMWs.

price for service and what shop did you use?
where did you get the pan and how much? how long did the shop take to complete task? did you also do the sleeve aswell and have you encountered any leaks? what fluid did you end up using? did you have to bring it or did the shop have it already? how long does the shop warranty there work , just incase you do develop a leak. sorry at 75K with auto tranny and really on the fence about doing this, but a ounce of prevention is better than a pound of cure.
