That MB Quart 3-way set at Best Buy is a good deal!

Wrong - please read my follow-up posts. You linked to BMW3 aka "frame style 3" and those do NOT fit E9x cars. The BMW2 aka "frame style 2" do fit.

There are 3 different models offered:
http://www.rockfordfosgate.com/products/details/t3-bmw1
http://www.rockfordfosgate.com/products/details/t3-bmw2
http://www.rockfordfosgate.com/products/details/t3-bmw3

Read the product page and figure out which one you need. Earlier I just posted one of the links assuming that readers could navigate the RF website to find the other two.

MB Quart should be plug and play. Plus, if you buy it from Best Buy, if by chance it doesn't fit, I'm sure you can return it. MB Quart replaces all 3 drivers whereas RF does not replace the 8" - just the 4" and tweeter. Seems to be quite a good deal at the current price.

Im actually leaning towards the mb quarts cause of that amazing deal on best buy. One quick question if someone can help before I make the purchase. I have a jl xd 600/6 which is a 6 channel amp, and the mb quarts says it requires 2x 2channel amp or 1x 4 channel amp. Will my 6 channel amp still work??? Help would be much appreciated. Thank you!

Yes, you can either leave 2 channels unused or the better solution would be to bridge 4 channels to two, and use those for the underseat woofers. You just have to make sure you set the gains correctly to prevent overdriving the woofers.

Thank you for that. I just spent the last hour trying to find an actual answer to why you would replace the amp before the speakers...

The Rockford Fosgate set is just a rebadged Helix set - RF is now a distributor for Helix:

Yes, I'm sure the fact that RF started distributing Helix and the recent appearance of RF branded "made in Germany" speakers that look similar to the Helix (a German company) is pure coincidence.

That all said, the helix crossovers definitely appear a cut or two above in grade .

Haven't seen any solid, in-depth reviews on the MB Quart or RF sets, I was leaning toward an all Morel set-up anyway, but need to decide on a front-stage, tweeter, 4", underseats.

I have the MS-8, 600/4, 900/5 JL HD amps, Morel Hybrid Integras (rear) a used DLS (temporary) for the center...

Leaning Hybrid 2-way and ADMW 9s? Will ideally get the musicar corner sub, so leaning toward going with a midbass for the underseats rather than the Earthquakes.

If anyone has installed/heard the RF or BMW set, let me know... I'm open to persuasion.

OK Einstein...
Following your logic all BMW specifc component systems that fulfill the 2 criterias you decided for (being produced in Germany and have at least 1 distributer in common) must be similar...

Look at the pictures again. Based on this, I would say they are build about as similar as the Helix and the Mosconi speakers are (not much - I've installed both).

So enough offtopic.

@ BCS13.
I have installed both Helix and Mosconi, both are good, but the Mosconi offer a slightly more refined sound and is a bit more smooth in the sound. But with your current speaker set-up, I would continue down the Morel path..

No, but they look interesting. Medium Qts works well in this application, these are low Qts. I bet they still sound great, but may need some EQ on the low end if they are used as subs. As midbass they will be great, no doubt. Only problem is the impedance, which narrows down the number of amps to drive these with adequate power, but your HD of course would work just fine.

Hey guys,

Just added a sub and amp but don't want to same for fronts if possible. I am trying to figure out what I can drop in. Ohm/watt wise etc. for under the seats since I realize they don't work.

I took seats out and the subs are their but not working. Is it possible a 328i Sports could have the speakers but they aren't "activated". I know BMW does this with other options, fogs etc.

I have located the tweets in rear and all speakers work except the under front seats.

You need to identify your system

You need to identify your system
if you have a US 08 it will be either Hi Fi or
L7 what it says on the Head Unit only has to do with
the model of the Head Unit.
And the under seats should be working with either of those systems.
Although they are pretty weak with the Hi Fi.

How did you add the sub would be the first question?
And were they working before would the next?

Thanks ctuna!

This keeps getting more interesting.

I CRANKED it and realize they actually are working. But almost worthless other than for slight shake.

I remember switching to a non factory head unit/non-DSP in my 5 years ago and having pure fed amplification and being blown away. And I assume the processor stuff is what's going on here too.

Sub upgrade: I had a box/sub I built for the MINI and tied it into the rear speakers hot. Which may also be hurting me since on the 12 MINI I had much better sound going directly from the footwell rather than the choked rear feeds, and that car was HK. I've seen charts showing ridiculous dropoff below 120hz for that HK MINI system which is idiotic. But built so girls can blast rap without distortion.....

I assume they were working before now that I realize they do now.

I will research what system I have but when I bought it came with almost no documentation which I am not fond of.

I don't have a front center or rears in doors so I am assuming HIFI.

Thanks man!

If you are a bass head there output is non existent

If you are a bass head there output is non existent.
With Hi Fi its pretty weak for what we used to call a balanced
system.
If you amp the stock speakers you will get some output but
its pretty muddy. I suggest getting some Jehnerts for the underseats
and some upgraded speakers front doors with an aftermarket amp to drive
them both. That will move you up to something multiple times better.
There should be rears on the back seat deck if they are not in the rear doors.
