Start Up After Oil Change (N52)?
Hi All,
I have a new (2007) E90 323i which up till now the dealer has changed the oil and filter on my request every 5,000Ks as a precautionary measure. Obviously the dealer conducts the services specified by BMW. I have decided that the oil and filter change I ask to have done every 5,000, I can do. I am a mechanic by trade but have been pushing the pen for a number of years now so I may be out of touch with some of the new technologies around these days. After I change the oil and filter, does the N52 require any special means of starting the engine as it builds up pressure as the filter fills, meaning, do I have to pre-lube the engine for the purpose of the VANOS units or do I just hit the started and let it idle whilst it builds pressure? I usually let everything pressurize and then start the car.
Put key in, keep foot off brake, push start, wait 10 or so secs, then foot on brake/clutch and let there be ignition.

Thanks ianbiz - pity I am not on a hill and it's bit of a drama getting out of the shed, but a good idea just the same.
I did forget to ask. The tool that removes the Oil Filter cover is a 12 week wait out of Germany - are there other ways I can remove it without butchering it?? Fritzables. |

The oil pump is mechanically driven. It doesn't pump the oil until you start the engine.
