Trunk carpet stained bad.. paint it??

One of my biggest pet peeves about my car has always been the trunk carpet. Not sure if the previous owner was disposing of bodies and used Clorox or strong detergents, but the carpet liner looks worn. It doesn't have any tears and the fabric still has it's "fuzzy" appearance.

So, I have two options; replace or paint. Anyone have any experience painting carpet? Does it last? Is the appearance satisfying to that of original fabric?

Thanks!

I'm sure you could easily find replacement liner for cheap at wreckers and would be preferable to paint I'm sure.....that would just flake off and you would have to remove anyway so just replace it.

Wish there were more salvage yards with E90s.

Unfortunately not the case

I've painted carpet before and it holds up fine. It's more of a dye, I used a spray version. You lose some of the "softness" but on a trunk mat I don't think it would really matter. I never had issues with transfer or fading.

It's been years but I think it was just a Dupli-Color product, nothing fancy.

Do what I did in all my cars.. Get a large cardboard shipping box (obviously not folded) and put it at the bottom of the trunk. You wont have any more issues and if shit spill just replace the cardboard box.

Unfortunately, this is how the car came.

If you're painting the carpet back to its original color, you might be fine. I tried to change the color of mine from tan to black with Duplicolor dye and that didn't work out so well. The tan is still visible under the nap and it made the carpet hard.

Scrub it.

Turtlewax has a great new line of interior cleaning products (available at Walmart, auto parts stores, etc), the foam cans with the scrubber brush on top.

That shit will even clean light colored seatbelts and junkyard seats. Its surprisingly effective.

Theres a number of different ones geared towards specific materials, read the labels
