Only two of mine were completely stripped, so I used the teflon-tape/epoxy method. (Apparently, the techs who changed the filters weren't in the gorilla class, yet. Although they did crack the cover.) I think I might get a couple more filter changes out of it before I need to use the brass inserts.

(BTW, definite for McMASTER-CARR. Even if I'm not using the screws and inserts yet, that was test customer service I've had in a long time. My order arrived the same day. I was afraid it would cost me a fortune for shipping -- they charged me $4.89.)

I find McMaster's shipping charges to be kind of high, because I tend to only order small items I can't get locally, but you are correct, their speed is amazing. It has to be as their primary clientele is building engineers and the like who demand immediate service. Unlike a lot of businesses though McM actually delivers to expectations!

If anyone is interested, I have 7 sets of 6 inserts. No extra matching bolts. The matching bolts are M5, I would get a 16mm or 20mm. I bought my bolts from Home Depot - pretty standard thing.

My inserts are a little different (and better, IMO). They have a flange to prevent the bolt from slipping through and it gives a flat area for the epoxy and bolt to be mashed together with a clamp.

5/16" drill, 1/2" countersink (BARELY countersink, don't tear through the plastic with the 1/2")

$6 with shipping to lower 48. Let me know if you're interested.

Just changed my cabin air filter and found that all the screws had been overtightened and the holes stripped. Someone actually tightened the front 2 screws so much that they cracked the tabs. The screws still hold the filter housing down but I'll probably have to fix the holes and buy a new housing eventually.

Just checked on the McMaster parts from the initial post. You have to buy 25 of the inserts and 100 M5 bolts. Must be a lot of extras floating around. If anyone has any they want to sell in pairs of 6, let me know by PM. Thanks!

I am willing to buy 100 bolts and 100 of the expansion inserts. Cost as I can see on the website is $42.12 with tax (I don’t know the shipping cost until I complete the order probably another $8) for $50 total.

100 pairs will be enough for 16 sets

The cost per set to you will be: $3.13 + $2.32 shipping by USPS First Class + $0.52 cost of padded envelope = $5.97 let’s say $6 even
If you are paying with debit/credit card over PayPal that would be another $0.48
If you wanted tracking that’s another $1.10

If I have at least 10 people interested (no deposit, no commitment, just gauging to see how many would actually get in on this) not trying to make money on this, although positive reviews in iTrade would be appreciated.
I would rather get these instead of paying $10 at my local hardware store that has similar but not ideal parts.

I'm in for $6. PayPal debit, not credit card. Any fee for that? And, what method of delivery w/tracking for $1.10? USPS priority mail or other?

Let me know, thanks!

Same 48 cents for debit cards, no fee if from bank account (I would not recommend this option to anyone) or from PayPal balance.

Delivery will be USPS first class

I updated my original post with this info.

I meant debit from bank account; not debit card. How do you get tracking for $1.10? Delivery confirmation#? If so, I'd go for that too.

yes from McMaster on the first post...

it looks like there is enough interest, I will order these now!

once I get them in, I’ll know the final cost, I’ll post pics and start taking orders.
