Winter tires/ Summer tires

This is my first winter with this vehicle and I had to drive in PA with about 1" on the ground (summer tires)... Horrible. Obviously not the smartest idea... So my question is do winter tires make a difference of night & day ? RWD 6-SPD.

Yes. Plenty of members on this forum live on states where they get exponentially mire snow then we do and they do fine with winter tires. They make a huge difference. Since we don't get a lot of snow normally in this area, all seasons might work just fine for you.

You should peruse the wheel and tire sub forum...there's lot of great info in there.

the amount of snow is NOT the only thing to consider. in any cold weather, summer tires will turn into super hard hockey pucks with little traction.

i put my winters on 2 weeks ago which is probably the earliest I've ever changed them. hopefully no one in this area is still on summer tires.

The guy in the 3 series with 19" inch summer tires learned that the hard way after he kissed the jersey wall after he passed me because he thought I was going too slowly tonight. I verified that he was OK and called a tow truck for him.

u betcha...

Even with dedicated snows (they're getting old after 4 seasons), the torque in our vehicle is so great, it's easy to spin wheels.

Dedicated snows...to avoid the jersey walls...

You should definitely get dedicated snow tires! I recommend one set of wheels for summer, and use the stockers with winter tires.

Get snow tires\wheels package or a daily commuter with all season tires. I have summer tires on mine but the bimmer stays in the garage.driving the commuter all winter.

Winter tyres make a massive difference - as from Nov this year it is now the law to have them fitted in Germany.
