Garage having problem coding my CD Changer using Autologic

Hi,

I took my E91 to have a cd changer coded in last saturday but the garage could not do it, the Autologic report said "control unit failed to communicate". They could not ring BMW technical because they do not work saturdays, so i am taking it back friday afternoon for them to try again and they are going to ring BMW.

The unit definitely has power to it as i can hear the cd's loading when i put the magazine in.

The head unit has definitely been coded to take a cd changer as now it says CDC in the audio menu, which it didn't before.

I am not 100% sure the garage have done one of these before, they are a Land Rover specialist. I took it to them because they had Autologic and said they could do it.

Could it be a case of they have coded the head unit to take a cd changer, but now they have to code it to recognise my particular cd changer and that is what they haven't done.

This is exactly what the report said-
Control unit failed to communicate.
Possible cause of error-
Fuses, power, plug and line connections to the control unit.
Control unit defective.

I am 99% sure the cd changer does work, i bought it off ebay from a very honest seller and he guarantees me it was working when he took it out of his E92.

Has anyone got any ideas what might be wrong, i would like to give the garage as much info as possible when i go back for them to try again Friday afternoon.

Any ideas would be welcome.

Pay attention to that.

Your CCC/ Radio is already coded. But most loop is not setup to so there is no light going to CD changer.

If you take out the CD change connector and then put your HU to CDC.
If there is red light coming out of most loop (on CD changer end), then problem is somewhere else.

If there is no red light, then pay attention to what I have said earlier.

Check the technical section as I remember writing plenty of stuff of another member how to connection most loop to CD changer.

Thanks for the info.

I have just tried it, thought it would be easy to spot in the dark. There is no red light, but when i go into the audio menu on the radio and press the CDC button, nothing happens, it doesn't even highlight the CDC logo, it just stays on whatever option is already selected. Should something happen when i press the CDC button.

So as makkan00 said you need to set the most loop to "see" the changer.

Thought so, but i just wasn't sure if the radio was trying to select CDC properly with it not being highlighted when i press the CDC button, so wasn't sure if i should be seeing a red light or not.

Just going to go and have a look for the most distribution block, anyone know exactly where it is on an E91.

Not the answer you were looking for, but I have to ask, why bother installing a CD changer? do you not have 6FL? flash drive with rips on it weighs a lot less and works just as well (assuming you do good rips w/ high bit rate MP3s)

Afraid not, have to agree it would be much easier.

Ok, search technical section and connect most loop in right configuration.
Most loop network is behind the passenger side rear seat.

Once connected correctly, then try to choose cdc and hopefully it should work.
If not, then you should take your car back to local garage and get it coded again.
Good luck.

Thanks, will take a look tonight.

Do I have to take the left side seat bolster off once I have folded the back seat down, if so does it just pull off.

Think I will cancel my Friday appointment. Read the threads in the technical section last night and certainly looks like it is the most connection, so my trip to the garage on Friday would have been pointless.
