Hmm I'm sure I have read about the 1M boys doing a CDV delete (I recall Joe stating that Pete didnt have to bleed teh clutch after doing his CDV delete) which I thought was weird as I was under the assumption that the 1M was like the M3 with no CDV...

I saw this > http://www.ecstuning.com/ES41456/. Maybe this CDV also has some amount of restriction but a lot less than the stock one in our cars? I guess you could ask why have a CDV at all?

I'll report on it separately after I have it installed on mine.

Hmm, perhaps this description was generated prior to the 1M being released?

Decided to fit some new kidney grille's. I had purchased a set of these oem bmw black chrome grilles 6 months ago. After fitting them I didn't like them so i wacked the oem grille's back in!

I had bought a set of those air scoops way back when i first bought the car (and was young & naive!) as these were really popular on the 5 series forum and thought if they work on a 530i surely they work well on a N54!!!

Easiest DIY ever, remove the air intake ducting:

Drop the scoop inside from the top:

Done + 30HP!!!

On 2nd thoughts they do block a fair amount of the radiator core...

Amazing thread, just read every post in the last week or so. Couldn't put my phone down. It has answered, and also raised, a lot of questions that I will post in my own intro thread coming soon. Keep up the amazing work.

Glad to hear you enjoyed the read, I had attempted to compile this build thread as a source of info (& perhaps inspiration!) for others new to the platform as when I had 1st joined there were tidbits of info all over the place but not in one thread.

Looking fwd to seeing your intro thread

Just gotta get my posts up so that I can upload pics. It's been 8 years since I've been a new member to a forum. I forgot how much it blows waiting for your 15 posts.

Unfortunately the 335i has been under wraps in the garage on the battery tender for the past few months (along with my aprilia!) due to home renovations!

I need to get the following items sorted by advan prior to going on the oxley highway run with a few mates!

Walnut blast - My car has clocked over 80k kays and whilst it still runs fine, no doubt she's choked up due to the design of the DI engine.

http://www.e90post.com/forums/showth...ghlight=walnut

VCG - I have had a minor oil leak since buying the car, and when changing the plugs all the threads were covered in oil. I have a replacement valve cover and gasket (the covers are plastic and its common for them to split and leak!)

oil filter housing gasket - might as well replace this since its a $10 part during the walnut blast

Still haven't fitted my BMS OCC, so might as well do this whilst the intake clean is getting done!

Inlet manifold gaskets:

I had a spare HPFP that I had bought years ago when having CEL's, but didn't end up using it. I had sold that recently and am thinking I might as well do this whilst the intake manifold etc is off (bugger all extra labour since everything is off)

This is the newest rev of the HPFP

Have heard the LPFP fuel sensor can cause issues, and once again the TB will be apart for the intake clean so what's a $100 part when you're spending $1500 on other parts!!

Meanwhile on my M3 driveline/brake/suspension upgrade I've bought some pads and brake lines.

M3 bits:

The stoptech pads seemed to have good reviews and provide great BFYB compared to the Pagid pads, and are an improvement over the oem ATE pads. My car is also predominantly a street car so it's no use getting noisy track type pads which eat rotors (the M3 rotors are expensive to replace!) and take quite a bit of temperature to start working (no use in low speed traffic!)

So hopefully I will get the time to get the walnut blast done shortly then finalise parts for the M3 driveline install and spend some time painting/cleaning all the hardware so it's ready for installation at last!

Hey Tony, yeah she spent 2 days at advan to get a major service.

I had the following done:

Walnut intake clean (had new intake gaskets installed also)
HPFP replaced
LPFS replaced
Stage 2 Fuel-it drop in bucket installed (to run E50 in the near future)
Waterpump
Thermostat & hose (vaico coolant and redline water wetter)
Upper radiator hose
Rocker cover & gasket changed (had oil in the spark plug wells and oil on the engine block)
Oil filter housing gaskets
RB PCV valve and a new check valve hose

All up it was around $3.5k with parts and labour, so it was a rather expensive service (no doubt it would have been twice as much at a dealership!)

As always the service @ Advan was great!

Just some further info on the stage 2 fuel-it drop in bucket.

I dealt with @steveAZ, and he is extremely friendly, helpful and even sent me a refund as he initially overcharged!

http://www.fuel-it.biz/e-series-stag...grade-options/

Protuning freaks recommended that anything over a E40 mix the oem lpfp will struggle and its best to upgrade it. I didnt want any hassles dramas during tuning so decided to bite the bullet and buy a used bucket in the usa and have it sent to steve for his upgrade option.

This drop in bucket solution is a lot more expensive than the inline pump upgrade albeit it shall also be a lot more reliable (I read a number of guys had fuel leaks etc due to the hoses coming off the inline setups)

So in the next few weeks hopefully i might get the chance to start chucking some ethanol in and getting the PTF E50 cobb tune sorted

I want to do a WN blasting, I should book myself in shortly. I remember mine were all glunky and yucky when I installed/replaced my HPFP a few months ago.

I actually saw the "to do list" for Bill on the Windscreen

How come you replaced both fuel pumps? I recall you were selling HPFP a while ago. Bigger pumps?

As for replacing the HPFP whilst the intake manifold CP etc was all off, the HPFP is right there to remove. So figured I would replace a heap of parts (such as the HPFP) as AFAIK they were all orginal 2006 manufactured parts!

Turns out the HPFP was 8 years old with 82k kays use (WR!?) albeit the waterpump was manufactured in 2011. I bought the car in 2012, so the waterpump had probably only done 15-20k kays...

I wanted a fresh clean slate as the 335i is not the type of car you want to get stranded in whilst 4 hrs away from home on a road trip and have the country town local garage mechanic attempting to repair it!

As for the HPFP I had sold, I bought that back in 2012 when I 1st bought my car as the error codes were indicating it was HPFP!

Since then there has been a revised HPFP with a new part #, so I decided to sell the one I had for cheap and buy the updated/revised HPFP as apparently it's now a hell of a lot more reliable compared to the older HPFP's (having said that my 06 HPFP was still going strong!)

With the LPFP I changed that to a high volume walbro pump (Fuel-it stage 2 drop in bucket with built in pump) which pumps a lot more fuel required to run high doses of E85

And finally since I reside 2 hours away from advan, it's not so easy for me to drop in and get work done like you Sydney boys! So I wanted to get everything done all in the one hit! Hopefully I can get my M3 driveline all prepped for installation in early Dec by Advan next!

I admire the care you put into your car! I'm aware that your HPFP didn't die however are there any tell tail signs to look out for when it is on its way out?

Great build and thread mate, this should be promoted to sticky

I've got an e92 335i on the way, and being new to the platform this info has been really helpful.
