MP3 tracks in wrong order

First I have searched fully this section to see if an answer exists already... but there are gazillions of MP3 posts.... Perhaps a moderator should make a definitive sticky for MP3

I have been succesfully burnin MP3 CD / DVD tracks... but there is one proplem I cannot get around.

My tracks look like the following:

This looks pretty good:
1st line Artist/Albums/Album - ( Folder structure )
main body Tracks - ( Filename )
playing Track - Artist / Track ( Details... Mp3 Tag )

There is a problem though...

No matter how I prepare / burn, the tracks are listed in Title order and NOT track number order... very frustrating!

Of course when Itunes burns them it puts the track number first, so they end up in the correct order.... BUT, you then end up with the track number being shown twice... a waste of the limited display width, and does not look as tidy.

If the BMW always displays the tracks in File name order, I cannot see a way around this problem... unless someone else can?

Clearly I want to keep the folder structure as on DVD's you end up wiith a serious amount of tracks...

I have tried all options whithin Nero, Roxio, but have not solved this issue.

Any help would be very much appreciated...

Dave

AFAIK when you're burning an mp3 disc it is simply a data disc so it gets ordered by those filenames. Only work around I can think of is, as you said, place track numbers before each song so they're in the desired order (01, 02,...10...).

Now it would be cool if CD manufacturers tapped into the mp3 ID3 tags and allowed sorting based on that info. I wonder if such a feature already exists in sound systems but I haven't looked into any for awhile.

Track numbering is the easiest way around that problem I'm afraid, Dave, albeit a waste of Idrive screen space.

Anyway, have a good Christmas & New Year.

All the best.

anyone know how come if i want to say turn the i-drive knob to scroll down to look at the other songs in a folder it won't? For example, there are 10 songs in a folder and the screen shows the first 5 and after the 5th song I can't scroll down anymore to the 9th song.

Never had this prob. Do the arrows on the scroll area show up to indicate more songs available to scroll to? What happens if you're on the 5th song and let it play till the end... does it go to the 6th and so on? Also did you try using the arrows on the CD or steering wheel to advance and see if that works?

When you reach the end of the screen, you'll feel resistance on the idrive knob--keep turning it (you wont break it).

when you tag your mp3s, the song number must be included.

And according to this I think that Bmw should exclude their numbers on screen (001, 002.......)

And what about a rolling mp3 tag title? when will we see this? Is there anyway the customers can tell bmw this?

Does anyone have the ability to play MP3 data CD's in an E90 with the iPod MOST Retrofit kit installed? I'm sorry for posting this in so many threads but it is so pissing me off. When they did my install a few weeks back and took me to Progman v24 I lost the ablity to play data CD's. They say I can't have the iPod retro fit and also be able to play data (MP3) CD's in my car with CCC system.

My old Blaupunkt MP41 does this. I named my files "##. track name.mp3", but used the id3 tags for artist, album, track number, track name, etc. The MP41 first displays the file name. Then it displays the track name and artist. These are shown on a scrolling display. The only tiime the track number is seen is in the file name.

I don't have iDrive, but the two line display on the Logik 7 is better for folder navigation than the single line on the MP41.

So, yes. The feature for reading ID3 tags in car audio systems does exist and has existed for several years. The question that remains is whether Logik 7 be adapted to use them.

Aha..... Burning MP3's.... as many posts as Christmas cards...

I would read a few of the posts then try again, they revolve around
  1. The program used to burn the discs and importantly the settings in the program
  2. The media
  3. and in my opinion the quality of the burner itself
  4. The layout of the MP3's to be burnt
BUT MP3's should work
