Mines based on dominance in their time. Take the one with the star.
Current
F-22 Raptor*
Chengdu J-20

70s-2000
F-15 Eagle*
F-14 Tomcat
Mig 29 and variations

50s & 60s
Mig 15
Mig 21
F86
F100*

Ww2
Zero
Spitfire
Hurricane
P51 Mustang*
ME109
FW190

Sopwith Camel*

F4 phantom sucked. Had no guns to begin with and all those awkward angled parts were to compensate for poor aerodynamics.

Euro typhoon is cute but vs russia, us, or now chinese wouldn't stand a chance with equal ability pilots. Good for ground attack. Similar to F16 or F18. Same for the hawker harrier. Quirky but useful. All these planes have done well due to pilot training, not the aircraft.

Doubtful the yak9 could have survived 1 on 1 with most aircraft of the time. Mustang, spitfire, would have toasted it. It did well because the Germans blew their load on England and western front bombers. It only faced inexperienced pilots in outdated aircraft. Yak 3 was close only bested by the Mustang, spitfire, and me 262, but nit enough numbers and was gone with the mig 15 being introduced.

English electric lightning I'd leave off just like the f-104, me262, mig 31, and p38 lightning. They were interceptors not fighters. Out of these, take the mig.

Best all time, f15 eagle. Mach 2.5, can go verticle, and 98 to 1 kill ratio. The 1 loss was a poorly trained Saudi pilot vs a mig.

F-4 Phantom 280 kills during Vietnam war enough said.
My brother flew phantoms for the raf during the 70s.

Eurofighters flown by the Luftwaffe opened cans of kick arse on the American flown raptors during combat simulation

Phantom kill rato was 2.5:1. F86 was 10:1. F15 is 98:1. Phantom did win but it did not dominate. Any questions?

Agreed. Spitfire was dominant but lacked numbers. It's engine supercharged in the Mustang arguably is the best fighter of all time. The spitfire arguably is the prettiest too.

Pretty much world opinion. And that articles. And the opinion of 98% of everyone else. Pilots can make a difference. It has some weaknesses but more advantages than anything out there now.

My favourite American jet as a kid was the F-16. A legendary fighter bomber in it's time with the dogfight button and HOTAS design. I think the Eurofighter came about 20 years late thanks to European collaboration, or lack of.

I've always felt the Russians had the better hardware (air frames(Mig 29, Su-27) and engines(Mig-25, Mig-31)) and the Americans the better technology. Fly by wire, electronics etc.

Love the thrust vectoring but I'm sure we don't get to see the stuff that's in development now like the Blackbird and the F-117A but with missiles able to pull 100Gs I think man's time is the cockpit is done. Leave it to the drones.

Enjoy. If your life was on the line, and you were equally proficient in both, I doubt you'd pick the typhoon.

Soviets do have the superior air frames. Actually gives them an advantage. In a nuclear war, theit jets run, or at least ran on tunes. Ours on circuits. Circuits fry when hit by an electromagnetic pulse. Their planes keep flying. Ours don't. We needed to do crazy shielding to stay in the air.

I had a airfix model of the A10.

The raptor costs over $60000 an hour to keep in the air, the Typhoon is around $34000.

Agreed 100%
They should have kept chunking them out, not retired them.

Good choice the JU87G was a great tank killer as was the rocket firing Typhoon.
I would happily chat tanks. Used to have loads of model tanks when I was a kid

Well yes this is true. They aren't technically retired. Just slated for it. Nothing better though for battlefield use if you establish air superiority.
