Neophyte to the audio world.

Hello,

I have an 08 335i e92 with the logic seven upgraded audio. I want a bit more out of the audio system in my car. But I am clueless on how to upgrade it. I will have it done professionally, but I want to know about it before do it. My brother has an amp laying around the house which he said I can use, it is memphis 16 mc 1300d. I have no clue about amps at all, so I do not know the quality of this one.

A few qustions:
1) What does an AMP do?
2) What else do I need besides the amp? (I am looking for a bit crisper sound and more bass. So I know I need a sub, but which one? and what else?)
3) what does it usually cost to have it installed?
4) what is the best location for an amp?

sorry for the dumb questions, audio is just something I never really looked into.

Ton of info on the site, check the sticky thread at the top.

Our ears hear changes in air pressure. Speaker cones push on air which then pushes on our eardrums so we hear sound. We hear changes between 20 changes in pressure per second and 20,000.

The speaker has an electric motor. The amplifier takes the very low-voltage signal coming out of any player - record player, CD player, etc. - and amplifies it enough to push the speakers back and forth far enough for us to hear sound.

None of that is going to help you understand the answer to your question about "how do I upgrade my car's audio". So check out the stickies.

Have you decided on a budget for parts and a budget for the labour?

Not yet, because I am still researching products and seeing what it will cost avg for the setup I want. I am happy that the amp I already have is decent, and saves me money in buying a new one.
