What RPM to launch stock 335 Xdrive?
I just picked up a 335i xDrive, 6MT
What rpm should I be launching this car at? I launched at 4k the other day and I still didn't get any wheel spin! I'm afraid to try any higher, I feel like I will rip the drivetrain apart I am coming from a Mustang GT, and I feel my technique is pretty solid. I"m just curious as to what RPMs people are launching their 6MT xDrives. Also, I'm curious as to whether this drivetrain can withstand a strong launch (not drag radials or anything crazy like that). |

I'm sure you can launch it a bit higher but I would advise doing it a lot , I don't think the clutch will hold up not to mention the other drivetrain parts.

Bump - anyone else have experience with drivetrain durability under launch? I don't plan on doing it often, if ever, but I want to know if the BMW is particularly weak when it comes to the durability of the AWD drivetrain.

Have you try pre-loading the drivetrain (e-brake) prior to the launch? If you do properly, it takes away so much of the initial shock to the t-case/ trans. It also allows you to launch at a higher rpm.
I did this in my evo anytime I was launching, and from 6k, I never had any issues. |

I'm at high elevation which makes everything a bit laggier, so I may have to be a bit more aggressive than you. But I found that flooring it at the first yellow and dropping it on the 3rd yellow worked nicely at the dragstrip. That way you have a full second at WOT and are very close to 5000rpm when the clutch drops. That was enough to avoid bogging under my conditions. The first couple of trips to the track doing that I spun the tires a bit and it was perfect. By the end of the season the track had gotten stickier and my stock clutch had gotten weaker and my clutch stopped hooking up. So I'm done at the track until I get a better clutch.
