Any update on this from anyone? Anyone have any luck getting bmw to own up? Anyone JUST replace the motor mounts and have luck? Mines hitting and my bmw service manager told me there is absolutely no chance bmw will ever cover this. Said it only happens under extreme driving and it was my fault.

I probably would've gotten out cheaper if I had just dropped a used engine in mine rather than replace everything the broken serpentine belt caused. Pretty sure its been close to $6k all in.

my quote was well over 6k, i settled with the dealer for well under half of that, luckily i took the car in at 99,900 mi. and asked them to do an inspection and they needed to replace something on the car, i also had them write in the receipt that the car is A-Okay in their eyes and well when i brought all that to their attention i guess they took some liability.

Bringing the old thread back to life
I have purchased a used 08 335 with 135k miles... No visible damage to the belt, have yet to check pulley, subframe.. How can I validate that the current pulley/motor mounts are the newer design ( in the hopes the previous owner changed these out)? |

but regardless of any contact.....the Belts don't just rip.....they shread.....and that is the nature of the beast. at 135K Miles.....change the Belt, Tensioner, and Both Upper and Lower Pulley regardless. as for inspection of any contact play. get your hand somehow to the PS Pulley. and feel the inside and outside for any notches. option 2, take it to a shop on a hoist and take belley pan off and have mechanic inspect it both sub frame and PS Pulley. |

Question -- I gather from the TSB this is only an N54 issue and those of us with N52s don't have to be concerned about it? (Still have to be concerned about the belt, but not from the PS pulley contacting the subframe)?
