Does iDrive speak roads?

Alright, this might be a dumb question, but since iDrive gets really bad reviews, I thought this question might actually be necessary.. Does the navigation system speak the roads as you are approaching?

i.e. "Turn left on Main Street" vs. "At the next intersection, turn Left"

it voices the highways - like i-94, i-90 and all your local highways.. but it does not voice the street or road name.

its called "text-to-speech" functionality, and BMW does not have it

Yeah but the manufacturer does have it on their stand alone units so hopefully it will be coming on an upgrade?

Huh?

Navteq maps are used on BMWs and many stand alones (and Google Maps)however the capabilty of the unit to do TTS (text to speech) has nothing to do with Navteq.

Navteq provides map data and content. The GPS manufacturer creates the TTS solution.

Not in Nav, no. Which is stupid, because iDrive does text-to-speech when confirming voice-dialed phonebook entries.
