My vote goes for OC/Irvine. Great weather, lots to do, and better streets for driving IMO. If you are driving around towards LA area, a lot of the streets there have crappy pavement jobs and a ton of pot holes.

There is a city in New Mexico by Albuquerque called "Rio Rancho".. Epic failure of a city that is I might be moving out to San Jose (work's HQ is there).. Is it possible to commute from Santa Cruz or does 17 get too backed up? (sorry, haven't been there since I was 10). |

Having lived in Northern, Central, and Southern California I have visited or been though most of these places and they are very diverse in what they have to offer or lack of it.
It all depends on what you are looking for and what is important to you. Here are just some things to think about: Art/Culture/Food/Nightlife Low housing prices Suburban or Urban living? Traffic/Commutes Weather Distance to beaches, ski resorts, hiking trails, lakes, VEGAS, etc... Distance from major airports (SFO and LAX good for international flying convenience - many direct flights to everywhere) Hot Girls I personally like living in West LA because I like the nice weather year around, close to the beach, close to ski resorts, amazing, diverse, and unique food (i'm a foodie), always something to do never bored. But I do have to put up with traffic (rush hr is every hr, but I don't mind esp top down in my e93) and higher cost of living. But then again priorities may change when I get wife and kids... If I had choose, I would prioritize as follows: LA/West Hollywood/Burbank Woodland Hills San Jose Orange Burbank/Glendale Sacramento Westminster Riverside Rule of thumb: The more inland you go, the less exciting the place but also has less density making for less traffic and lower cost of living. But sometimes crime/gang activity can be increased in those areas too... |

Orange County all the way! The weather is always nice and everything is much closer to each other here (ie, beach, markets, food, hang out spots). Orange County is pretty much at the center of everything if you think about it.
If you're into asian food then westminster is cool ... beware of asian drivers though. I live near there and it makes me nervous everytime I go into the area |
