Perhaps these are actually someone's cats?
I have a similar gripe about neighbors dogs who bark all day & night.

Pet stores carry a spray that gives off a nasty smell cats don't like, it's used for training household cats. When I had a problem with neighborhood cats, I used this. I sprayed it on my tires, front and rear bumper, and mirrors. Didn't have any more problems with cats. Only downside is you need to re-spray every couple days, but for a $5 can of it, I say it's well worth it.

living in the city will suck ass for your car. I find new scratches on my car every day. It's always something new even if it's not a stray cat

I just got a piece of blue plastic tarp from a local hardware store, sized to cover the entire hood while tucked under the windshield wipers.
I heard that tarp works rather well in this application, since cats don't like "noisy" materials, i.e. materials that make rustling or cracking sounds. Also, tarp is not a very inviting material to crawl under. Nevertheless, I have seen some cats to sit on the tarp on my car's hood. I would gladly buy a dedicated hood cover made of softer material, but I don't see anyone selling anything like that. All my attempts to search for such a product on the net let either to those black frontal anti-chip bras or to transparent permanent protective films. BTW, does anyone have any experience with transparent protective films and cats? I once read a horror story on the net claiming that non-groomed cats easily ruin such protective films with their claws as they attempt to climb onto the hood. |

The spray is certainly interesting, though. That's probably a better bet, if you can stand the smell. Another solution which may work, may not, is to piss on your own tires. We have tons of stray cats, a few of which use our back patio as a bathroom. The cat piss smell is super annoying. I'm trying the marking-my-territory thing, I'll let you know if it's effective at all. I haven't noticed paw prints on my car or any in our parking lot (which is surprising) but if I do I'll probably try making an electric blanket to zap their paws just enough to train them away. |

Covering the car is the best solution yet IMO.

more paw prints this morning..... this is ridiculous, I have to do something about it soon. The slight marks they leave, I hope they buff out, not deep or anything but noticeable

Wow i don't even care if you guys go crazy on me. I lived in a relatively rural area and had a similar issue with raccoons. You don't want to shoot them while they are on your car because you will either miss or scare the crap out of them and they will really tear up your paint as they bolt off the car from getting shot. Their is a relatively simple solution for me it was a bowl of pet food with anti freeze that was set on top of my car. As someone pointed out the neighbors dog wouldn't be able to get to it as it was put on the roof/hood of the car.

Rent a small Uhaul truck. Leave the back door open and lure them in with food. Once all of them are in, lock them in and drop them off in a neighborhood or pound far far away.

You people who are talking about poisoning the cats do realize in most states this is classified as a felony. Causing an animal to suffer is just not right! Get an airsoft gun as this won't harm the animal but will teach them a lesson. Also shooting a cat where the intent is to kill/maim is classified as animal abuse in most states as a misdemeanor or felony. I use to work for the Humane Society.
