335d boost gauge

Hi, i am a new owner of a very nice 2009 335d monaco blue with black leather and sport package. I have the car since 2 weeks and i have installed a JBD the 1st day i have the car.
I really like how it perform with the JBD.

I have read all over the net about boost gauge for the 335d and i dont have find nothing exept the $500 P3 vent kit. I play with turbo car for close to 20 years and for me a boost gauge is not an option. Does anybody have one installed in a 335d and what is ours options.

Thanks a lot and sorry for my english.

The jbd cable offeres an option to change the real time mpg gague to boost gague. Its kind of confusing navigating through the speedo options to find what your looking for, but it is possible. Good luck.

I have read that, but this will show nothing accurate...
I want a real boost gauge in psi.

I wasnt able to find anything to tap to run a boost gauge. I think the only way is to run the P3 Kit or tap the manifold for pressure.

Welcome to the boards. I see that you're a fellow Canadian too. How many kilometers on your 2009 335?

No tune mon ami. That's the last thing I'm doing to the car after my suspension swap and LSD install.

Our cars don't have any vacuum lines we can tap? I find that hard to believe.

The JBD does? I haven't heard anything about that. I know the JB4 for the 335i's have that option. Could you possibly direct me to where I could use my mpg to show boost instead?

Monk, it is via the optional OBD cable, not the JBD itself. If you have this cable. Here is the IOM.

Thanks. Mancuso. I never tried it because it doesn't strike my fancy.

FYI, the turner model of the p3 vent guage also gives 0-60 times (kind of neat) and the boost guage must be tapped separately from the OBDII

From turnermotorsport.com...

Here's another option.

http://www.e90post.com/forums/showpo...45&postcount=5

Also, one could tap the MAP sensor for an analog signal of the sensor that the DDE uses to monitor boost (I use that for the water injection controller),

Hey, TDI, I've been considering a snow kit, but I'm not confident as to how it ties in. Would you mind enlightening me as to how & where you tied in to the MAP and how you used that output to control the Meth? I know you used a modified JBD control, but was this to alter the fuel delivery in tandem with the meth or to actually control the meth injection (or both). I'm thinking of using e full snow kit, stand alone. Unless i can wrap my mind fully around what is needed, i will be recruiting the help of a diesel mechanic friend/coworker, but I'm wondering if there are any "gotcha's" which I should look out for. Thanks!

For anyone else's benefit who is wondering where the MAP Sensor is, I believe this is how to find get there...

Thought I had a pic of the map sensor splice, but can't find it. I got a bit of free time now so I'll go grab a pic in a few mins.

I'm using a short piece of really thin solder braid (something like this http://www.hmcelectronics.com/produc...Fc5AMgod42YAbQ) to slip inside the OEM connection, then crimping that to a wire wrapped in shrink wrap to form a weather tight seal. The wire goes to the 0-5V DC Snow adjustable controller (you set the start point and the end point and it does a linear progressive curve output to control the pump). The pump is a 250 psi Alcohol Injection Pump. The output goes through an AEM flow gauge unit and into the AEM nozzle. It's a pieced together system...

Regarding the JBD, I modified it so it's a progressive controlled unit. Made a circuit which monitors the engine rpm's, and linearly increases the JBD rail pressure distortion above ~2400 rpms. Until ~2400 rpm's the JBD is basically off, and then increases to 100% at ~4400 rpm. Did this for a few reasons:
1. Reduced stress on injectors from above stock rail pressure for the vast majority of operation (99% of the cars driving is below 2500 rpm's so no excess rail pressure in those conditions).
2. Reading how the DDE adapts injector behavior leads me to believe it will tend to adapt out the JBD's behavior if its used at high levels all the time. Having the JBD essentially off during rpm's where the DDE adapts injector behavior leads to, I believe, higher output capability when it's needed (high rpm's, high load).
3. Reduced stress on the tranny by keeping peak torque levels below the transmissions rated capacity.

Thanks, TDI, I've often thought about this type of JBD modification myself (just from a fuel consumption and premature equipment degradation standpoint with regards to the injectors), especially since the sub-2500k rpm is where I spend an hour or so each day on the highway. I knew you had done something to this effect, but wasn't sure what. Thanks for the knowledge!

Btw, what settings are you using as min/max on the Snow controller?

Found an old pic that kinda shows it (this is better, since the 2um final filter setup is now kind of in the way...).

My memory was a bit off. I added a water proof connector between the splice and wire. Did this to monitor the actual DC levels output by the MAP sensor when dialing in the controller settings (peak level was ~3.3V).

The wiring is cleaner now than in the older pic, but there's still a lot of connections going on in there...

Do you know where we can tap the T for the boost gauge ?
If we can find a good vaccum source, no need for a $500 boost gauge...

And I got my hopes up about the cluster hack boost gauge . I am sure there is some vacuum line somewhere we can tap into to get a boost reading.
