Went to Kempower yesterday, results of the new dyno:
205.0HP -> 206.7HP 435.2NM -> 436.8NM Guess there's little to no difference. He told me my emissions were cleaner, but that's very subjective of course. Think I don't need to change my diesel, maybe add a little additive every now and then to help keep the injectors clean A friend of mine also had his 320D done : 206HP and 444NM!

I wonder if I should go to kempower to get another dyno. to confirm my numbers. I see nobody above 440/444nm ??? I guess my dyno is wrong ??? Do you know how much they charge for dyno ? I'll call them anyway. |

Hi Mantis, how is it to shift all that torque with a manual stick? Smooth or not smooth? Any differences?

Absolutely no problem shifting, it's just as smooth as before

Just look at http://www.kempower.be -> Hot news -> specific car news But the max torque doesn't tell you the whole story. You have a strange drop in power around 3800RPM, is that noticable when you drive it?

Don't know about the e60, but my old e39 530d MT was a pig to shift with only 400Nm.

I just wondered if it would somehow loose its "smoothness" with over 100Nm more than it was designed for. I´m just very curious because I want to remap my car as well. Seems like a lot of fun |

Believe me, it's worth it. Compared to the ridiculous prices of some of the factory options, a remap is a bargain. Basically, you'll get a 330d for the price of a 320d, just as I got a 335d for the price of a 330d. And you get better fuel mileage! Life isn't usually this generous to us, but here it really is a win-win situation

The 330d also has 500nm and plenty of people are happy with manual boxes in those. The only problem is that you can't dms the manual 530d / 33d because you'll melt the gears. |

Here´s the 320d manual box: (There are two versions, a 340Nm and a 370Nm. The first must be for the 320d 163hp and 340Nm (same gear ratios), while the latter maybe is for the latest 2 liter diesel with 177hp and 350Nm. I´m not sure though.) |

I wish somebody could explain how that works exactly though, only so much you can pick up from howstuffworks.com

I really don't know if the 330d and the 320d have different gearboxes. But what I do know is that a 330d with 500nm of torque shifts prefectly well. If your chosen remapper (and I was referring to DMS in my post) are happy to tweak a manual 320d then it is probably because they are satisfied that the gearbox CAN take the extra torque. I know that DMS will not remap a manual 330d for the same reason. |

But why does DMS only take it to 406Nm while Kempower takes it to 440Nm?
Could it be that DMS knows something that Kempower doesn´t? |

I think the clutch would be the first to go if the car can't handle all the increased torque. I mean the gearbox doesn't shift to another gear while it's spinning, right. It's the clutch that has to do the hard work: getting the engine linked to the gearbox after you changed gears.
At my dealers they converted a 120D to a race-machine with 250HP!!! I should ask them how they manage the extra strain on the drivetrain
