Car accident - geico total fair value?
Recently got into an accident, car was towed to bmw, adjuster says about 26k to fix. 2009 335i coupe, 22k miles. Car was mint. Had all the bells and whistles, m package, manual, cold weather, 4 new tires, etc. Geico puts the value at 27k.
Anyone have any advise with this type of thing?

Personally I've never had a vehicle totaled or been in this situation, but from observing the forum here's what I've seen:
See what they'll give you for it as a totaled vehicle. Then go from there. I wouldn't try to repair it, the car would lose all value. I'm sorry for you loss, she sounded like a beauty. Hope you get to make the best of it and hop in a new BMW.

There giving approx 27k. Yeah I have the option to buy it as salvage vehicle, but looks like a headache.

Look online for a matching vehicle with the same miles / options. If they are generally asking more for the same vehicle start negotiating.
26k in damage means it probably is not worth trying to fix as a salvage vehicle. Could buy back to part it out - you can make a nice chunk of change if you spend the time to do it. |

Forget the salvage thing unless you want to deal with that--it really only makes sense if you are a mechanic and don't plan on selling the car soon. Don't know how much you have invested in the car but I saw a guy recently on the forum who bought a low mile 11 335 with good options and real low miles for 26K..hopefully the money can get you an "upgrade." I had a car that was totaled and it ended up working in my favor as I did get an "upgrade"

value sounds about right, but start researching to make sure they arent screwing you. Ive found they will sometimes bump the value up a grand or 2 from what some private sales are going for, but that depends on the insurance and adjuster.
I bought my 09 335xi with 18k miles on it 2 yrs ago for $28k. Was almost fully loaded (no msport, no logic 7 sound, had everything else) |

Looks like cars are going for 27-29k in your area with lower mileage. Not much to choose from in exact options/manual.
NADA clean retail has it mid 28. I would shoot for somewhere in the 29 range, and possibly settle in the 28? With manual, m-sport, and low mileage - push for as much as you can. Tough options to find for sure. Good luck! |

You can negotiate with insurance on the value.
