noticed something wierd...
i was comin back from work today... i noticed that my oil temp was arround 245 after 15-20 mins of driving (55-65mph).... nothing wierd about this, perfectly normal... i noticed this since the first day i got her... but then i had this run with a 350z... this was at 2am....open road with barely any cars...i smoked this guy... he just wouldnt give up so we did a couple of runs and then i let him go....but then my oil temp slowly dropped down to 225.... this has never happened to me before..... the temp went up to 250 once and never again... but today it went down to 225 even after i pushed it... dont get me wrong.. i'm not complaining... just want to know the rationale... anybody know anything about this... my guess is that i actually took the car fast enough for it cool down...

I know what you're talking about. Some days, I'd be pushing the car hard and the temp is at 220ish, and other days, I'm just cruising, the temp is at 240ish. The highest I've ever got it up to was 255 and I was trying my hardest. As long as I'm below 260 and above 210, I'm happy |

if you live in cold climates, just starting your car, the vehicle will take longer to heat up, as it's sending out oil to a cold cooler. you want the engine to heat up as fast as possible, so the cooler is often bypassed until needed. sending oil to the aux cooler also creates added power draw. it's not uncommon to push the car hard and having the oil temps reduce. its your aux cooler working. |

I wonder is there is a way to remove the bypass for those of us in warmer climates - should take out some wear and tear by running lower temps on a daily basis

theres a thermostat in the oil cooler, when oil temps reach a certain temp its opens and oil flows thru it. its not constantly cooling oil, same as on M cars.
