what i meant is plugging the tube at the trunk end and not disconnecting the power.

Honestly, its easier to get under the car and do it in 30 seconds than it is to contort your hands in the rear light assembly. Plus, I dont think the tube actually goes up that far, its all electricals in there.

The video of the mod is a little flawed since the camera is in front of a closed port then in front of an open one..no kidding it will be louder in front.

This really should only make the car seem louder when it would be normally closed, which I can hear it open when accelerating.

That's kinda what I was thinking. So, pretty much at cruise and idle is probably the only differnce since I'm assuming that's when the valve closes.

Do you know if the valve closes again at any other points (in particular at any rpm at WOT)?

That's what I figured. I just wondered if perhaps BMW had it close again at WOT to manage the sound levels in the upper rpm band. If it did close, I would expect a major difference in volume that would be quite noticeable under high rpm /wot runs. I've never heard/read about this to be the case, so it must be closed only at idle and part-throttle applications.

So have we determined using a BB would work the same as the 7/32 ball bearing? Or are people saying its too small?

A 5/32" ball moved when I had moister in the line during a test. Use a 7/32” ball and you’re done and there eaaier to find. Having a perfect hose seal with ensure that you have zero rattles. The unplug solenoid method and small leaks in golf tee or the like will cause rattles.

If just happen to be a fluke that by plugging the valve hose will put a load on it so it keeps it quiet.

BB is probably too small but I used an airsoft plastic bb and its diameter is a bit larger. It fit nice and tight and has been working great for the past 3 months.

The airsoft BB worked perfectly. Just FYI for those who have them around the house.

Tried this over the weekend. Anyone notice slightly better mileage? Under freeway conditions, I went from 27mpg stock to 27.5-28mpg with V2.01 to 28-29mpg this morning with V2 + golf tee mod.
All conditions are based on cruising on the freeway at 75 mph first before resetting the meter during my 20 mile commute to work. During these mileage tests, I drive like I would with my 80+ year old Grandma in the car...
It was 52 degrees this morning vs. my test last week with V2.01 where it was 60 in the morning... This was the only difference. Traffic was the same in all 3 cases (Almost zero traffic).

Anyways, I'm thinking under little load, having both exhausts flow freely without the flaps, and the addition of V2 helps a tad bit.

Just picked up my jet black 335i coupe on Saturday and already completed the mod. Does anyone know if this deletes back pressure thus decreasing turbo spool. One of my friends told me this and worried me a little

What does your friend drive and what is he basing his knowledge on?

+1

If anything, I would think that it would have the opposite affect and increase the turbo spool.

My cousin drives a B7 S4, but he knows his fair share about cars.

It sorta makes sense. - when the valve is closed it would restrict air pressure from being released- thus sending it back to the turbo.

I just want to make sure that I'm not hurting my car, and I'm sure thats the last thing anyone of us would want to do.

I remember watching a Top Gear episode of the M5, where they mention that the flaps are used to give a "better" exhaust tone.

First off, you arent hurting your car. The turbos on our cars are soooo small that they hardly have any need for backpressure to spool up. The miniscule amount of backpressure lost from this silly little valve is nothing. The only thing it does is open up the flow to both pipes from the mufflers. There are plenty of us running variations of the mod to no ill effects.

... and IIRC, the valve opens under full throttle in stock form anyhow.

I had the mod for a couple of days and then returned to stock. The only thing i got out of it was a louder car when started up cold for a minute until the idle came down to 600.
