I'm not sure a single turbo would offer much advantages over upgraded twins (RBs, for instance) at the sub-500whp power level. At these power pressure ratios/flow rates, small twins are operated happily and perform very well. A single conversion only makes sense, IMHO, when trying to support power/boost levels that small frame twins aren't capable of doing efficiently. I'm sure there is a very good single turbo option for the 500whp level that may perform as good as, or better than, upgraded twins. But the cost involved (manifold, turbo, plumbing, etc,.) may not be worth it to most. I'd say that the advantages would largely be in reliability through reduction of back-pressure and through better heat dissipation through the use of a tubular header vs close-coupled log manifold.

At that point, wouldn't a set of the newer hybrid turbos be a better choice to get 500whp on pump gas considering all the extra hardware that has to change for the ST setup?

Hi Shiv

I really want to get your single turbo kit installed but I'm right hand drive and my steering column might be an issue.

What can you do for us RHD customers?

Also would my 6AT really benefit from 500hp+ or will I be loosing power through that trans?

Love your work btw

You will need to upgrade the auto tranny if you want to use all the power the kit has to offer!

Wow that's a big upgrade.

So far I have the following

Complete M3 rear subframe with diff axles etc and modified prop shaft to 6AT
M3 brakes all round
KW V3 M3 spec
Procede v5
PWM meth
Spearco FMIC
BMS DCI
PLM catless Down pipes
M3 paddle shifters

What I need next is better oil cooling and new SS exhaust

If I was to upgrade the tranny what would be better an M3 DCT 7 speed or the 6MT?

And fitting + coding that bad boy would be a nightmare. May even need a new ECU from the dona car. Too much $$$$$

As you can see I am not shy to try new things but a trans upgrade!

I had a dream that I bought the new M5 4.4 twin turbo engine and trans and fitted it to my e92. That would tune to 800whp and be well within its limits for all day racing

Dream on !!!!

I've never seen the steering column on a RHD car. How does it get around the stock turbos? Can you take a pic showing the clearance between the frame, steering shaft, and turbos? thx!

can you just bolt up two gt35rs to the exhaust for a rear mounted system? it would make the power i believe. saves room under the hood.

I will be interested too and I am confident that quite a number of RHD 335i owners in S.Africa, UK and Australia will be interested in a single turbo kit upgrade.

Haha, yeah just take out the mufflers and there's plenty of space. Heatshields are already there. IC pipes might be kinda long tho.....

Soooo...going to do anything like this for the 62mm guys? I wouldn't think the 62 would require that much more boost to make 600whp on pump gas.

Sorry to burst your bubble, but I'm pretty sure nobody has forged pistons. Everyone has forged crank and rods though.

I have an 08 (Oct-Nov 07 build), and my stock pistons are not forged, but cast.

Dmacc meant building your current transmission, not replacing it with a 6MT or 7DCT.

Speaking of which, does anyone know how Sikh's build went?

So to make this final... All n54 in production since first to last are the same period?... Thats regarding forged internals...

I'm pretty sure that is the case.

My car was built in Oct-Nov 2007 and it, for a fact, has cast pistons.

Maybe it's possible that before that they were forged, but I doubt it.

I've been told by Vishnu that the single FFTEC kit will fir RHD cars but we may need to modify or build from scratch the Downpipe to make the clearance.

I also want to better understand how VTT are doing it and not using so much meth with their HPFP upgrade.

At this point I'm thinking 500HP is fine and if I can keep the oil temps down thats all you need for a solid track car.

Here in the UK we like corners and racing lines. 1/4 mile is fun but the track is where the real fun begins

I'm scratching my head a little bit here because it seemed like it was this thread that ignited accusations from you and others that Shiv had stolen your HPFP secret sauce...
