Crazy MT Fluid...
Hi guys
After reading tons of stuff about it and after I looked on my MT6 to see the sticker that recommand MTF-LT-3, what is your best recommandation about that ?? I don't what to go at the steeler ... I'm getting crazy... My plan was to go with the Motul 75W90 full synth... But I what also the quick shift... Redline advise to use the 75W80 exactly for that... Question question ... THANKS !!!

I've replaced mine around every 80,000 miles on average. I have 330,000 miles on the transmission. I've used BMW MTF-LT-3 at each refill.

A manual transmission can be set to "comfort", "sport", and "track" modes simply by the technique and speed at which you shift it; it doesn't need "modes", modes are for manumatics that try to behave like a real 3-pedal manual transmission. If you can money-shift it, it's a manual transmission. "Yeah, but NO ONE puts an automatic trans shift knob on a manual transmission."

My 335Xi got 185 000 km (114k miles). The transmission was jerking on a cost down, free wheel, at low speed (less than 10 MPH)... I first change the transfert case fluid which SOLVE the jerkiness completely !!! Amazing to be honest ! Since I did not find a equivalent, I went with BMW transfert case oïl at 65 CAN$ with taxes, from the steeler ... My plan is to go on and change the MT fluid but I'm without any symptoms except maybe a small grinding noise with the cluth not engage, at idle... More to come !!

DIY... Warm up the transmission with a 20 minute drive. Lift the car. Loosen fill plug first (to make sure you can add oil back in). Open drain plug and drain. Close drain, refill trans with oil of choice. I use a big automotive syringe to refill. Be careful of dirt around the fill hole. |

I recommend FUCHS TITAN SINTOFLUID 75W-80. It is 1/3rd the price of OEM fluid available at RMEuropean and probably other places:
http://www.rmeuropean.com/Products/8...861-V4173.aspx A year ago I had started noticing a bit of difficulty in putting into gear and suspected transmission oil level was getting low. Before at 50K I had used Pentosin, which had behaved exactly what was in from factory. This time I wanted to try Fuchs since I had had a very good experience with a notchy old transmission years back with a Miata. People were swearing by it at Miata forums about Ford Motorcraft manual transmission fluid, which some had rumored it was made by Fuchs for Ford. And to my amazement it had fixed the notchy gears I had. Similar to my experience year back with the Miata and Fords Motorcraft oil, this Fuchs oil one also got better as I drove it. It takes about a week to really work itself. All the shifts got more smoother, less effort to put in gear. Just my two cents. |

On their website it shows for 335. I got 328 and I don't think so it makes any differences right ?? I also searched on ebay I found same oil, but for Mini Cooper. Parameters of the oil are the same, but price for Mini is cheaper than for Bmw I don't know why.

http://fuchs-eu.lubricantadvisor.com...c9089d66bf2674 Note for MTF LT-2 and MTF LT-3 both, they recommend same oil. I looked at Ebay after you mentinoed, some of them show Febi brand bottle pictures, but description says Fuchs. Febi bran may or maynot be getting the oil from Fuchs, I don't know, I wouldn't be able to know. I would also mention BMW current manual transmission oil is "MTF LT-3" P/N 83222339221 and it is 75W90. Fuchs is 75W80 oil. I had from factory BMW MTF LT-2 being 2006 model, which was 75W80 I believe. MTF LT-2 is discontinued by BMW and now for mine also BMW says use 75W90 MTF LT-3 now for mine. Yours I think should be MTF LT-3 from factory fill. Just trying to give all facts that I know, it is your decision in the end. |
