thanks for the guide! I had the most difficulty at Step 2. It just did not want to come out and I was giving it some good elbow grease. I was afraid I would break the assembly.

Other than that, I broke one of the clips at Step 7. =X And for my custom piece, I used a pen cap, cut it down, and glued on a square piece of credit card to match the height of the original fogs. I have a 2006 330i and I can turn on the rear fogs without turning on the front. Great mod!

Thank you very much for the DIY. I attempted it today and you're absolutely right about step 7 being the hardest part, I think I spent half the entire procedure just trying to get that piece out. Once it was out, I ended up using an eraser stick cut to length, and super glued it to a credit card cut-out as dakine and justin330i suggested. Worked like a charm

Also, just as justin 330i mentioned, I too love the fact that I can turn on the rear fogs without having to turn on the fronts.

I give up man. No response to two messages and he has logged on since I sent them. It's been about two months, I'll consider it a $20 lesson that I am not getting my part. Nice way to rip a brother off. Time to make a call to Irvine PD and USPS PD.

Sorry about the OT, but does anyone want to sell their OEM switch - just the one with two blank buttons. Must not have scratches/look perfect. Please PM price shipped to NY.

Hello everyone, my name is Nick. William Chang is my old employee. He wasn't selling these buttons under my business but he left them here when he quit. My dad actually made the buttons for him and he owes my dad a lot of money. I just found this today he left his password on my shop computer. I will do 1 of 2 things, if you purchased a button I will send it to you for free and if you still need one there is a few left. I see a few complaints and pms, so don't go trying to get a free button, these are for the guys who paid and didn't receive it. I would be pissed too. If you need to contact me outside of E90post, you can email me at Nickk6@cox.net.

wait so you dont need a custom piece for the 06 330i?

Great DYI! Cheap (5 cents worth of legos) and activates a cool feature!

Yes, you do need to get a custom piece on the 06's (I have a 06 325i). I used legos.

Installed! Used a duplicate white piece that is the same for the front fog lights (purchased it from a seller here on the boards). The tricky part is getting the blank button out of the housing. The diagram here shows using two screwdrivers to pull the tabs back to release the button. That didn't work well for me so I did this instead:
  1. Take a small screwdriver and pull one of the two tabs back.
  2. It opens wider than you might think but you will see the indent if you open wide enough.
  3. Take a large flat screwdriver on the outside of the housing between the button and the housing and apply a slight twisting pressure as if you were going to force the button out.
  4. When you apply a little twisting pressure to the button and pry on the tab, it will force the button down enough to keep the tab from snapping back into place.
  5. Keep pressure on the button with the large screwdriver still and pry the second tab back.
  6. As you open the second tab while twisting the large screwdriver the button will pop out!
This worked for me and nothing was damaged. Cut the little tab stops on the outside of the button (4 of them) and reinsert the button.

Just did it also.

Super easy.

Used a pen cap and a cut-up credit card.

30 minutes and $0.00 as opposed to the OEM replacement switch is one of the BEST DIY's I've seen yet!

Cut up a credit card into 1-4 pieces the size of the base of the white piece. stack them and glue them together. take a pe3n cap and cut it so its only the tip, about an inch long so that when stacked on the credit card pieces, its the same size as the white piece.

just some rudimentary replication...
