e93 and lowered -- roof rattles
anyone have an e93 that is lowered (stiffer suspension) and the roof rattles. My car is CPO and i'd like to take it in to get fixed, but i can already hear them saying this and that about how my suspension upgrades has contributed to the problem.
any thoughts on how to get rid of the rattles? it's really bad and get's quite annoying. I'm at 58000 miles. thanks matt |

Your suspension upgrades would have nothing to do with the roof rattling unless your new shocks/springs are extremely stiff, but even then, that would be a stretch. A rattle is either a loose part in the top mechanism or a gap/missing or deteriorated seal where the panels fit together or where it meets the windshield header. If you can move it at all when it's in the up position, something's not quite right. Is there a specific area where it rattles (front, back, one side or the other)?

maybe rattle isn't the best word... it certainly doesn't squeak... but it just doesn't sound "tight" ... like you would expect. i'm not sure how to describe it exactly other than knowing that then i go over bumps, i would guess that the three panels are moving and vibrating against each other...

You need to treat all the window and top seals with Gummi Pflege. It works great for the common squeak/rattle on the E93. You'll find it at some parts dealers. For some reason BMW doesn't sell it anymore.

Gummi Pflege a few times a year on all the seals to keep them lubed and clean and you should be noise free! You can get it from Enzyte online lots of places.

I was just looking at my roof seals and wondering what I should use to treat them...then I see this. I had no idea about Gummi Pflege but I have some on the way now, it might even stop that annoying wind noise above my head that I get with the roof up.
Thanks for the info in here . |

took it into the shop, and they claimed they couldn't find the rattle.. total bs. but they did clean and lube up the roof seals... a lot of the squeaks are gone though, so that gummi phledge stuff works ...
i just wish they could have diagnosed the rattle. |

Hi Matty,
I am in the process of trying to get my E93 lowered on H and R springs and shocks. The garage had it for a full day before calling me and saying they couldnt do the drop, because putting on the rear suspension, means taking part of the roof mechanism apart in order to get access to the rear shocks. They didn't feel comfortable taking apart the roof incase anything went wrong. Whilst this won't help you find what the rattle is, it could be something to do with when your suspension was added, something wasn't put back correctly or perhaps wasn't tightened properly when the mechanic took part of the roof mecahism apart to get to your rear shocks |
