EVO X or 03-05 M3

Hey fellas,

Im looking for an everyday driver around 18K no more than 23K. Which do you think would be better an an everyday driver and yet still be friendly to mod. I realize some answers may be biast but I am looking for some input.

I wanted to look into a 03 - 05 M3 or an 08-10 EVO. I wasnt too sure about the M3 because I heard that those models had the VANOS and bearing issues. The issue with the EVO is the lack of truck space and somewhat bare interior.

Btw, ive already had 2 335's so im trying to get away from them atleast for a little while.

Whats your opinion?

Please don't buy an M3 or Evo as a beater. Or at least don't refer to them as beaters. For you're needs I'd get an 06-07 WRX.

So a WRX can be a beater but an Evo can't?

OP, the Evo is a track beast. AWD is awesome. It's reliable when left stock, but fixing them isn't cheap like you would expect from a Japanese car. It's also not very attractive in my opinion.

The M3 is sexy as hell. Repairs are expensive, but not much more expensive than the Evo. It won't be as fast as the Evo, but has a nice interior and an absolutely gorgeous exterior.

I'd go for the M3 if you don't plan on tracking the car and you have the funds to fix/maintain it.

I'd go with e46 m3, it may have the vanos issue but doesn't the EVO X have that notchy transmission? Also, m3 has a better interior/build quality compared to the EVO X. Up to you but I'd go with the M3.

I seriously doubt you're affording any EVO X at that price unless you want super high miles. I'd get an EVO 9.

Im not asking you to rationalize my choices or amount. If I had to spend a few extra I will but those are my choices. Just asking for your opinion.

No thanks on the Civic. Not trying to stray that far away from performance. Anything can be a beater man.

Stop being over analytical clearly im not "beating up" the car, simply a daily driver. Furthermore, dont see how a WRX can be a beater and an EVO cant by your comparo

Ive changed my phrasing to those offended so deeply

I said WRX. I never said anything about an STi, which is a direct competitor to the Evo. What I'm saying is the Evo/STi and M3 are too hardcore for daily drivers. The WRX is more reliable, cheaper, more comfortable etc. and just as modable than those three cars above. You guys need to learn how to read.
