LED fogs

Hey guys,

Anyone have LED fogs? Looking for something brighter than the stop halogens and thinking LED vs HID is the way to go. Thanks

I'm by no means recommending these

http://www.ebay.com/itm/2014-New-72w...7f1d75&vxp=mtr

but they sure do look interesting.. they're claiming nearly twice the lumen output as HID - I imagine they're more than slightly overrated but either way they should be fking bright.. Not sure about the beam pattern however.

First, if a LED that size produced 3200 lumen it would waste away close to 30 watts of heat. There is no way a small heat sink / fan setup like that would be able to handle that mount of heat without overheatink within minutes.

--Edit. Cree does make a LED, the MK-R2, however it is rated to a max of 1800 lumen, so 2 of them would be 3600 total, at the MAX. Still the amount of heat generated would be insane for a small unit that size.

Second, while i have never seen these in person, i would think the difference in beam patterns would cause way too much light to spill everywhere besides for the road.

Yeah they're a very odd design, unless it's a generic picture it looks like only one side has the actual LED. This may be good for reflector setups where you'd want the actual light hitting the top half of the reflector which bounces downward, as opposed to hitting the bottom of the reflector and having it bounce up.. think of an X. That is assuming of course the LED even lines up correctly.. could be facing sideways once installed for all I know. People used to (maybe still do) shield the underside of HID bulbs in reflector housings to give a better cutoff. Somewhat like a D2R bulb but with a larger shield under it.

The heatsinks do look quite small. I'd think you'd need something that normally would be found on a CPU..

Those look like effectively the same thing (unless there's an LED on both sides).. they're claiming 2800LM per bulb.. I think everything he mentioned above still applies.

we carry our MTEC LED fog light kits, although LEDs are newer technology, they can also be just as bright as HID fog light kits (longer lifespan as well)

here is an installed shot

Haven't been able to find anyone with long term use. Worried about destroying housings due to heat. Know of anyone?

its non-existent, these are made with the highest quality material in mind, therefore, extremely longer lifespan than HID fog light kits and its also cheaper as well, cheaper and longer lasting when compared to HID fog light kits, saving extra $ in your pockets and no overheating issues as well which are plagued by many HID fog light kits, since they get overly hot.

Can you provide a link to these fog LEDs for an E90 Pre LCI? They look like a great alternative to HIDs in the Fogs

I've been running the HPB HID kit since 2009 in my 335i and it matches the OEM Low Beam Xenon perfect:

I've also had their HID kits in all my other cars as far back as 2006.

I personally like the LED fogs after I saw a friends car. Then did E30 high beams, E32 high beams and still need to install the fogs into the E32.

Did take a photo of the X5 fogs which I need to post in the other thread.

Thread where he posted and shared with me - http://forum.e46fanatics.com/showthr...rst+review+led

I could get a photo of their light output in the fogs against a wall to see their cut off/spread?

I am looking at LED fogs as well.

A cheap close alternative are these GP Thunder 7500k Plasma white fogs.

This picture is LED Coronas / turns/ fogs on only
