Run Flats

Does anyone on this forum ride on RF tires? I am assuming only PhuOc and myself do since our vehicles are brand new. Question: Will it void any warranties changing to non-RF tires? Secondly, what differences will a driver notice with a non-RF tire? Lastly, if you do not ride on RF tires, do you carry a spare?

Changing your tires will not void your warranty. I took my runflats off. They are were too heavy and really not needed since I've got the BMW roadside assistance plan. Secondly, I could feel a difference when I switched to my summer performance tires from my RF's, you feel the road a lot more but I also increased the wheel size so that played a roll. Now after having them on for over a year, I am completely used to the roads now. I do not carry a spare, again because I have the assistance plan. Even if I didnt have the coverage, I wouldnt carry a spare. Thats what my insurance would be for.

I have run flats. From what I read it does give a better ride quality b/c tires are not as hard. I'll let you know this weekend if its true.

I also have run flats, it will only void your tire warranty.

No runflats here and no spare, I have AAA. The ride is SO much better when you get those steel tires off the car.

Todd, you weld, have you ever thought about making a light weight exhaust similar to AMS? If you had pre-bent stainless steel piping it doesn't seem like it would be that hard. I am assuming you have a lot of experience welding?
Not too many bends

Edit: thinking about it, that would probably be extremely difficult.

SCARE FACTOR:

Ok so sunday, I was driving home and it smelled as if something was burning. Stop and got gas and smelled the same thing. Didn't think that much about it b/c I haven't done anything stupid in it. So today I went to pick up lunch and I smell it again. I pop the hood and could barely smell anything. I only smelled it when I turned the car off and walked pass the drive side. Then I read this thread http://www.e90post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=486021 and now I think my clutch might be going out....any thoughts???

The reason I think its my clutch is b/c this morning I heard a noise I've never heard before, and I pushed in my clutch and the noise stopped, released my clutch and it started again. And I did this a couple times, b/c on my toyota they had TSB on a squeaky clutch issue b/c the throwout bearing would go bad. So....would this be covered under warranty??? I read that it might be if its the first time

I was just about to say it sounds like the throwout bearing. Thats so typical of a throwout bearing to hear a noise then you push the clutch in and then it goes away. I wouldn't say its the clutch going bad b/c it would be slipping. No reason why it shouldn't be covered under warranty at all.

My clutch slipped so bad 2 days ago. I let my friend drive my car and I noticed that he was slipping the clutch a little b/c he had never driven it before and I told him to be a little more aggressive when letting it out and not to slip it so much and he did. Later that night I went to drive it, and in the midst of spanking an is350 my clutch slipped terribly fully engaged in third gear. I've tried to make it slip since and it won't do it. I hope that was a one time thing and it isn't going bad b/c if I replace my clutch I will put a lightened flywheel in also and I really don't want to drop the money right now.

Nice edit, b/c yes it would be very difficult working with pre bent piping. I could do it easily if I had 2 things: 1) A mandrel bending machine and 2) A y-pipe already made. If I had that it would be cake in about 3 hours.

Yeah, I saw where they have y-pipes pre made for $116 so I figured it would be possible. The y-pipe seemed to be the only difficult section at first.

the thing that worried me was the burnt smell. And it hasn't slipped yet. But like I say I haven't driven it bad. I think the worst I drove it was the night we all met up. hehe

Well usually when you smell the clutch is when the windows are down when its slipping, otherwise it could be the throwout bearing going bad and just getting hot.
