Accuracy of i-drive system monitor?
Have you guys ever had serious discrepancies between what idrive says and what you see on your car? A mechanic I had looking at something else told me the front brakes had 2mm left and were almost done, and the rears were very close. My idrive shows 7000 miles remaining on the front and 19000 on the rear.
Should I get a second opinion or does this happen a lot? |

2mm worth of pads can EASILY go 7,000 miles.
Remember it's CONDITION BASED. Meaning that if you drive mostly freeway, the system takes into consideration the rate of wear for the last XXX miles and amount of censor wore off in that period to calculate how much further you have to go before you have to change pads. And if you go out to the next auto-cross at Streets of Willow and did some serious braking, I'll bet after the event that counter is going to show significantly less miles left before you need to change pads. Actually with 2mm left on the pads you wouldn't pass tech but that's another matter entirely.
