Repurchasing my 335D.. what to do next?

Hey Guys...so due to repeated issues (A/C issues) with my 335D, BMW has agreed to repurchase back my car.

The 335D im sure we can all agree is a really special car, just pressing down on that throttle and feeling that torque is such an amazing experience. I write today to ask, what other car would you get if you to replace the 335D? Ive been looking around and nothing has seem to catch my eye.. I was actually thinking if I should find a low mileage 335D! ahh i wish they were still making them :/ there talks about the 320D coming soon but the specs on it seem disappointing...

thoughts, suggestions?

If the 320d seems a bit too weak, supposedly BMW is bringing the 535d later this year. IIRC it has a newer version of our engine, so it will have more power in the new 5 series...

When I looked at purchasing my 335d, the runners up were the E350 Bluetec and, believe it or not, a base Boxster.

There might still be some new 'd's on BMW lots...

really dont have any set priorities, just looking for a 4dr sports sedan thats fun to drive and that has respectable mpg. 55-60K budget. the D gave pretty good mpg for the way you can drive it, i loved that about it

Audi A6 3.0TDI would be on my list (available later this year), but hopefully we'll see another 6-cyl diesel 3-series here.

Audi A6 Avant 3.0L TDI was on my wish list before I bought the D, but not available in the USA at the time. Or an S6 or RS6 Avant. Or even an A4 Avant with the 3.0L TDI. The options in Europe for nice diesels are so superior to what crumbs we get in the USA.

Thud, how many D owners could we get to participate in a letter to BMWNA addressing some of our concerns about carbon build up around 50K mileage and related issues? Would you be one?

Do you take long road trips? You could get a 40 or 60 kwh Model S for that price range. This would give you a 160 or 230 mile range (respectively)--the latter with 0-60 <6s--or you can splurge and spend 85 on the performance version (85kwh, 300 mi range, and 0-60 in <4.5s).

Im not usually one for electrics/hybrids, but it has four doors, luxury, the splurge option is plenty sporty, and it is most certainly unique (and sexy looking to boot!).

thanks guys for your input. Maybe ill look into the Audi TDI lineup.. i hear the it might be released sometime this year.. the A6 seems it would be a good choice..

for those guys with the carbon build up issue, fight for it! BMW does respond, but with a lot of patience and persistance. good luck!

haha it looks so tempting.
I wonder how long the wait is..
plus theres a $7,500 CA tax incentive.. but I was get concerned about how to battery will be 4-5 years down the line and all the random maintenance costs, ill do some more research into it.. that would be a fun crazy buy.

Thats a pretty solid incentive, and you guys will be the first to get the charging stations, etc. At 300w/mile, you get the equivalent ($-wise) of roughly 130 mpg (maybe a bit less since your energy costs are ridiculous; I'm using mine which are about .11/kwH). You could probably even do a solar charge setup at your home depending on where you live, how much you drive, and local incentives that are available.

on the maintenance, I'm pretty sure they have a planned replacement that you can lock into in advance. The replacement is recommended after 8 years and ranges from something like 8-12k depending on the battery size you choose. I only remember because I was surprised by the 8 year number.

Have you seen one yet? I saw a guy get into one in dc today & I must say its pretty cool to see the door handles pop out when you walk up to the car with the key and then recess when you start to drive. Also the massive screen on the interior is pretty fantastic in-person (think iPad's big brother being built into your dash). I say you do it

...or find yourself a used 2011 d and stick with your diesel brethren for a little while longer.

Another option: You can always mentally build the cost of every modification you've ever wanted into the cost of the replacement then just go all out from day one. A low mileage diesel with sport package, etc from 2011 is probably high 30s, add 6k for a complete m3 body conversion and 6 for all of the suspension bits (arms, sub-frame bushings, LSD, etc) and you have yourself one awesome and unique car for just shy of 50 (with a warranty).

Good luck. I can't think of anything that can match what the 335d does. You will be giving up something. Hopefully it will be fuel economy. Please feel free to PM what they are paying you :-$

basic cali lemon law forumla.

first time i had the problem was at 20K mileage.

x/120,000 = y%
x= the miles i brought it in with the first time I had the problem

y%= the percentage I basically eat from the selling price. which is a little over 16%

also refund of all the taxes, fees + ext warranties, etc..

seems fair, what do you guys think?

Tesla really seems sexy, but after doing some quick research.. alot of people have been having alot of random issues with it.. they havent seem to perfect it yet, which I get..its still new and an up and coming company.

Keeping the 335d is an option, but if im having problems now.. what problems will I have after 50K mark? i have the extended warranty option, but I dont want to deal with the headaches.. but ahh 335D such an amazing car tooo!
