Definitely for me. Probably look to find something a little easier on the wallet for a year or two - just until I get used to owning a house and all that. Plus, I'm thinking of a career change - so until my mind is made up, I'll probably go for a MK5 GTi on a 06-56 plate.

Need a 4x4 so the Golf will make way for a Freelander 2. The GF would prefer an Evoque but they are too expensive and she would prefer a new kitchen instead.

335i will be going sometime this year, replacement likely to be Golf GTI/GTD, or sensible 4x4. Not the best car for the school run. And my Mrs also wants an Evoque - no chance.

luckily she is not the best cook and is happy with a basic kitchen without loads of equipment.

If it was a choice between a new saddle and a cooker I know what would win.

Hence why I will never be a fatty!

I did speak to a couple of garages about welding but they claimed that type of hose would never hold if welded.

I was therefore left with remove the DPF (at which point my warranty was out the window anyway) or get rid before it failed.

I was able to walk into the MB dealer, get the car I wanted, get the book price for my car back in cash and end up paying no more per month that I was doing before.

A no brainer really especially as what I now have is much nicer than what I had before.
...no brainer then!

was that within the three years or BMW ext warranty?

BMW Extended. The car was 3.5 years old with 75k on the clock and had hardly had a hard life.

Interesting car choices, looks like e90 post are keeping the economy growing but surprised no one is looking at the new 3 series.

The first offer is quite hard to believe. My brother does leasing and he said it's a gimmick price to attract 'hits' and get people to call.

If it's true - then it could be deal of the century.

There have been loads of really quite amazing lease deals on MB over the last 3 months.

This is fairly typical and up to just before Xmas I would have said there were better deals to be had.

Shop around (and also speak to the dealers as they have access to these deals as well) but if lease works for you, yes, these are genuine.

BUT

The 125 Edition is no longer in production so this would have to be on a car that is already built and in dealer stock.

As above, interesting no-one yet has mentioned the new 3 Series, anyone considered one or have they just been ruled out of any buying decisions?

I don't think there is enough known about them yet, especially the decent engined diesels. I will be looking to replace my 325d around May, I will certainly be looking at the new 3 series.
But for me it will come down to what the best contract hire deals are going on at the time, I'm never paying my own money for a car again, contract hire is the way forward

Contract Hire still uses your own money !! THere is a certainty with it for sure but no option to "win" if your car retains value better than the Contract Hire Company anticipate. I'm still very open to looking at this next time but hard to see how suffering the depreciation on a brand new car and paying relatively high interest beats buying a 2 yr old car with own money.

It boils down to the fact the contract hire companies get HUGE discounts from manufacturers as this is the only way they can discount and shift on large amounts of units without affecting the resale values of their cars.

Of course it will never beat buying a 2 year old car for value, but compared to buying a new car and changing it every three years, which is what I am many others do, its a good option.

We have just sold my wife's car this week after buying it new and keeping it for three years, and replaced it with a 2 yr contract hire vehicle. For what it works out per month we can have a better car for the same money, and if I'd done that last time I would have had £12k sat in my bank account for the last 3 years, rather than wasting away on my driveway......

I am coming up to 2 years ownership of my E320cdi estate, and still no desire to change it.

I have never kept any car longer than a year before, apart from our 120d M-Sport, but that was Fionas car and swapped for a 123d m-sport.

I am now at 102k miles in the Merc and still look forward to getting in it everytime, it is comfy, quick enough with 272bhp (Brabus tuned) has a nice stereo, and it will gobble up whatever you want to throw in it too. Got 60 square metres of floorboards in it the other day, and managed to get a fridge freezer in it too.
I don't know what it is about it that I love so much though, with BMWs I was always looking to upgrade, but with this I am content, don't get me wrong, I have been looking at replacements, E250 and E350cdi sport estates, c250cdi sport estate, XC60, 530d GT, Evoque, even looked at another F11 5 series but a 530d F11 with adaptive this time, but none of them feel quite as nice as what I have now.

I can get into a new C250cdi or E250cdi for the same money as my 5 year old 100k mile E Class, but honestly think I will regret it, so going to stick with it.

We have the X1 as well, now the clutch is sorted I really quite like it, but wish I had known about the hire deals on Mercs before buying this.
To think I could have been in a new E250cdi sport estate edition 125 for the same money as a BMW 18d sDrive at a year old is a bit annoying.
Having said that, if I didn't have a BMW at all I would probably be itching to get back in one, so probably a good thing really.

Edit: One other thing, I honestly can't afford to keep swapping cars anymore.
My outgoings are now £3600 a month, I have a daughter off to Uni in the autumn, a son who will be off to school next September and my wages are the same as they were in 2007, for the first time in 15 years I feel a bit skint, and that is only going to get worse when they are off. Looking at £12,000 a year for her at Uni for rent and food, and he is £9000 a year for school. Just hoping that the local school may get a bit better over the next 18 months or so, so we can save a few quid.
It would be nice to have two cars that I like that I owe nothing on, which we could have in two years time, so keep thinking about that when I get itchy feet as well.

Some very good contract hire prices on the various 328i F30s at the moment. And I'd certainly be looking at the new 320i too. That engine looks very nice.
