Info on E90 iDrive and TV ... confused !

I have searched and searched and not come up with any conclusion as to how to get TV working.

Do I need a seperate module? or is it ready built in the car and just need some software to unlock it ?

If a seperate module is required then where can i get one from ? prices , part numbers etc.

Probably gonna get flamed for repost .. but the search engine on these forums is pants.

TIA

I too was looking at this and I managed to get a BMW retrofit part number and price for my Prof Sat Nav.
BMW Part: 65500416737
Price: £808.

That price has put me off a little..

wounded !!

ouch and double ouch...
do you have any more information .. pics . .links or anything like that ?.. i'd like to get my head around what i would be buying .. i mean robbed of, where it goes... any extra wiring and indeed if it can be retro fitted .. etc etc.

The reason i ask is becuase i looked under the boot flooring and there is a big shiney box which i have told is the GPS unit .. next to that is a big space for another big shiney box .. just wondering if the TV unit would go there

I don't think it is economic to retro-fit the TV module to a car that hasn't got it as standard - not to mention the coding required by BMW etc afterwards. Quite possibly a right ballache of a job.

ballache seems an understatement .. i have found a german verison of the install .. attached hopefully .. not too clear what is actually in the car already and what isnt but seems a whole heap of trouble !

If it were possible, I would probably retrofit the TV module - but saying that, I've always thought that TV in a car was a bit pointless, not to mention the crap reception etc.

The LCI iDrive will allow the viewing of DVDs while the emergency/hand brake is engaged. You can listen to the soundtrack if the brake is released.

I don't have any pics or other information. It was just a phone call to the service dept. at a dealership, and Dr Dave is right about coding...another £350, so over £1158 for TV? I think I will deffo give it a miss

Hmmmmm not being picky but I'd not give a £1000 50" plasma wall space!

But I know what you meant

Not quite tv, but this allows you to play ipod videos on the idrive and it also accepts external inputs.

Fiberoptic cable replacing and setting on MOST distribution box (X14255) is pain. I know cos I had similar problem when retrofitting cd changer. The official installation instructions was wrong. And I was so lucky cos I was able to find correct one on the net. Thankfully someone had uploaded that info. Its not simple, and if you make a lil mistake over there, ncsexpert will not recognize the DVB module for coding.
