do i change auto trans fluid on 335i at 50k?

just went over 50k,wondering how many people changed auto trans fluid on their car at 50k?what else needs to be changed at this mileage? thanks for replies.

You should change it by 60K, if you plan on keeping the car, or playing fair for the next guy who gets it...

You'll have to pay for it, of course, since even though BMW has abandoned the nonsensical "lifetime" fluid idea, they still want to let it go 100K before changing it. Not good for transmission life!

I plan on doing mine every 50K. I did that with my E36 M3 and when I finally sold it at 130K miles, had never had any trans problems at all. Whereas many auto boxes on those cars had been replaced between 80-120K where the fluid had never been changed.

I would do it at 50K. It is not hard so you could do it yourself and save the dealer labor. If you do take it to the dealer, they will charge you unfortunately.

Do make sure that if you decide to do it yourself, pick up a Bentley manual, because there is a very specific procedure and temperature the fluid needs to be to ensure a proper fill.

Fluid temp. must be between 86-120°F to get accurate reading of level. The ATF temp. can be read by a BMW Diag. tool. I emailed BavTech if their tool can read the ATF temp., and they said at this time it does not have that feature, which is unfortunate. Level is correct if fluid flows out of fill hole at these temps...Bentley says better to check at 85 than 120.

Also, use a new sealing ring on the fill/drain plug every time you open it up (if it has them, I don't really see that the drain plug does on realOEM)

Use loctite on pan bolts when reinstalling. There is also a specific order to tighten the bolts.
