trade in value $$

Hi guys,

I am planning to trade in my 2006 323i
I went to 2 car dealers last week and they all gave me this BS Black Book etc...
one guy said the car is only worth $16,000

mine is a very basic 323i with auto tranny + premium package
with 32,000km and its just over 4 yrs
Artic color with beige interior
warranty expired

can some of you suggest what $$ value I should be considering
I am planning to get a Honda CRZ

Thanks

wholesale value $16275
retail value $19850

hope this helps. when you are trading it in at wholesale, you should get the tax break $16275*13% tax = $2115....so you are actually selling for $18390

you can probably sell privately for a bit more, but might not be worht the hassle

GLWS!! I like the CRZ too - would make a great daily commuter!

yeah, I am thinking if they can give me $20,000 excluding the tax credit
I will close the deal, buy the CRZ
am I asking too much for $20,000?
the new CRZ they don't give discount at all, I have to buy MSRP price

that's a stretch....esp since there are a lot of E90s on the market

supply>demand

try your luck with a private sale first

thanks, private sales is way too much work
besides, like you said, too many used E90 in the market now
what would you do?
I mean what is a good reasonable amount would you consider
these dealers always give you the lowest value, there isn't much room to negotiate, right?
another question is if I don't sell it this month,
seem like the longer I hand on to the E90, the more it will drop next year.

well, I would first determine your buying power - find out what the cost of the CRZ is (FYI: cost to them is NOT the factory invoice price) I'm sure you can buy something online for $20-30 bucks - some sort of report and it will be worth your investment.

Before you negotiate on the car price; negotiate your trade in value. ie. $18000

from there, negotiate the cost of car + 5% as your offer. ie. if the cost is $20000, offer $21000.

So you will be paying $21000 - $18000 (your trade in) = $3000+tax+pdi+etc

in short, always neg your trade in first and then the price on car...cause the trade in can vary a lot, but the car cost is cost+5%, if you neg the car first, they will give you less on the trade in. but if the price on trade is done, your offer does not change - cost+5%

hope this helps! this strategy has helped me a lot in the past.....I was able to buy a STI at cost +$800 and also get 99% of BB trade in value

Are you able to wait a little while? I owned a number of previous Acuras and Hondas before I got my E90 and I know Honda/Acura is famous for not giving any discounts when a new model comes out. If you can wait a few months I'm sure they'll offer discounts on the car.

FYI I priced out a 6MT CRZ recently at a local dealer and they want 28.5k OTR.

I can wait, it seems like the longer I wait, the more the E90 will drop
I just hate to see they (local dealers) are willing to give me say $18,000 now
and 3 months down the road or even in early 2011
they only give $15,000 for trade in
I guess that SUCKS, its true and do you agree?

correct me if I am wrong, even with a big discount from Honda of $1500 off if I wait, then my car is worth around $15,000 by the end of the year
do I gain or lose $$?

can someone help me works out the math here?
