It hasn't been updated yet. According to my SA it takes at least a month since they announced it.

Justin
Was just about to share this link myself. Thanks.

Nothing so far for me, but I figure it'll start showing up within the next few months.

Plugged in my VIN, didn't get any recall information. I took my car to the dealer today and they said they needed official confirmation from BMWNA that my VIN is part of the recall. No worries, though. I figured while it's there I'll have them check other things that I've spotted to see if they can diagnose them.

The car is a CPO, so I should expect the VANOS to be covered under it, if it does actually fail. Either way, I'll be on the lookout for the letter.

Just the Facts:
  • BMW of North America is recalling 156,137 2010-'11 vehicles, including the BMW 335i sedan, because loose bolts could lead to engine stall.
  • The recall is expected to begin in May.
  • In addition, owners of approximately 170,172 2010-'12 BMW vehicles equipped with inline six-cylinder engines not covered by the recall will receive an extended warranty to address this condition.
From this Edmund's article. Very interesting.

Anyone ran their VIN and got a notice about the recall? I had my car stall on me twice before but my VIN came up clear. Not sure if its not affected or its not officially on their website.

Not on the site yet.

If you have warranty, no reason not to take it in.

I had my car in yesterday and they are still not authorized to do the recall and they do not have parts yet. Letters are supposed to go out this month.

Two recalls really

SO i went to look up my VIN for the Vanos issue and lookie here I have a pending Power Supply Recall, vanos am sure is coming up soon...POS
Anyone else have this???

March 2013 | Recall Campaign No. 13V-044
Power Supply System
Dear BMW Owner:

This notice is sent to you in accordance with the requirements of the National Traffic and Motor Vehicle Safety Act.

BMW AG has decided that a defect, which relates to motor vehicle safety, exists in certain Model Year 2007-12 1 Series, 3 Series and Z4 vehicles. Our records indicate that you are the owner of a potentially affected vehicle.

We sincerely apologize for any inconvenience this may cause you.

DESCRIPTION OF PROBLEM

This Recall involves the vehicle power supply system. The connection between the positive battery cable and the fuse box can wear over time. If the wear is excessive, then in most cases, this can cause a break in the electrical connection and create a non-starting condition in the vehicle.

In certain cases, it can also cause a momentary flickering of the display in the instrument cluster or a momentary (less than one second) engine shut down. The electrical system may also be completely interrupted during vehicle operation, and result in engine stalling and a loss of various vehicle systems that could increase the risk of a crash.

DESCRIPTION OF REPAIR

The positive battery cable connector will be replaced with an improved version.

The actual repair will require approximately two hours; however, additional time may be required depending on the BMW center's schedule. This work will be performed free of charge by your authorized BMW center.

Contact your authorized BMW center immediately to have the necessary repair performed as soon as possible.

Yep, that Power Supply System recall was pretty widespread and I had it fixed by BMW under warranty within the past year. I think it involves changing out the positive battery cable (longer one?), minor work from what I remember.

Took it in previously for the random stalling but of course they couldn't replicate it at the dealer so they couldn't do anything.

I saw this as well, does that mean other N engines will have the extended warranty applied to them?

Interesting, I now show no recall at all, but I never took mine in for the battery. Last time I looked, it mentioned the battery but not VANOS.

Checked BMW NA' website for the recall based on my vin and it does not show up yet.

I believe mine was a summer 2010 production.

Keep us updated if you receive the recall letters or if the BMW website identifies your vehicle for recall.

Took my car for its warranty oil change, asked SA to check VIN for any recalls and said mines didn't show anything. I showed him a news article about the recall and he said he wasn't aware of it. Go figure...

Do you guys expect otherwise?

There is a lot of logistics that have to be done before contacting dealers and owners.

Just posted about this in the X5 forum but obviously all N55 drivers should know. This just happened to my wife's X5 and the car stopped running within 10 miles of the first sign of problems. We did not make it to the dealer, and we went straight there when we got the fault indication. Almost ended up disabled on a two lane bridge with no place to get out of the car.

BMW needs to speed up the process on this.

I got my recall notice today via postal mail. It says they have insufficient parts and will contact again when they have some.

Anyone else get theirs?
