Resetting/Calibrating LWS in INPA gives error

i'm retrofitting cruise control on a 320D 2005.
Changed the parts needed and added cruise contol to the VO and coded the modules needed to code.

Next and last step is Resetting/Calibrating the steering angle sensor in INPA but it gives me the following message and nothing more happens:

Calibration steering angle only with steering wheel balancer !!

I searched in google, but no luck. There aren't many topics on how to use INPA. All topics talk about how to install it.

Any help would so much appreciated?

Did you try to drive you car and make turns from lock to lock? Or even do it stationary?

Use DIS to do it, INPA will not do it.

2nd, the process is easy in DIS and it works. In the function selection menu it's under service functions. Then select test schedule and run the test module following all instructions.

Okay this was actually really easy

1. Start by launching Toolset 32 / Tool32:

2. Choose "Load SGBD Group file"

3. Find your DSC module and click "open", (In my case for a E90 2005 320D it was DSC_87.prg)

4. Scroll your way down to "lenkwinkel dsc abgleichen", ignition on and double click that. Wait for the job to finish (took about 10 seconds for me) DONE! Steering Angle calibrated and VIN-matched to car.

When I tried to use tool32 I to do the task I got three lights on DSC, Brake and a triangle light all yellow. Does that mean I have a problem in the sensor, cause suddenly the washer hand stopped working as well.

WARNING!! Do not perform this if you don't know how to initialize the active steering.

Doing this on a E90 will reset the sensor but it will not initialize it. This will leave you Active steering disabled and all kind of DSC faults.

I had to take it to the shop to get it calibrated after i did this.

thank you very much, i did it to my 2006 e91 and worked perfectly does anybody knows if it is the same file for a 2011 x1 E84? I took the cruise from the "old" e91 to fit it to the "new" e84 and need to do the same job to it

ChrizLoud - thanks for having me do this again. After replacing my SZL and running this function, my steering wheel was off. Didn't touch the suspension. After checking out the steering angle in INPA and finding it to be like 14 degrees off, I tried in INPA to reset the steering angle sensor to be zero degrees with the wheel straight. After doing this like 10 times and the angle not being reset, this thread reminded me that I did initially use Tool32 to do this initially a few days ago. Doing this again with the steering wheel straight and then driving about a quarter mile reset it perfectly. Active Steering can absolutely make your steering wheel off center!

Sorry for reviving this old thread but I just had to thank nate5ks. ISTA/D did work for me. I had the 3 lights; ABS DSC and BRAKE. From INPA I had an error in the DSC module that I could not erase. All the parameters were showing to be in range but still had a 5E46 DSC Steering-angle sensor: plausibility error.

After reading nate5ks' response I launched ISTA/D and followed through the Service Function Test Plan for this error, answering the questions in the left panel and clicking NEXT to run the recalibration and erase the DSC error. Confirmed that now INPA has 0 errors in DSC module.

Thanks, David
