+1; Well; the dealer updated my progman 29.2 to eliminate this, it did- for a while; today the red car on a lift and brake light on my car turned on again; hopefully it's because my pads are thin and nothing else.

Just got a call from my SA. He said a service bulletin applied to my car but wasn't aware of a specific software version update.

From memory, I believe the bulletin was 240808, but I can't find it on the forums here. Is anyone able to look that up to see what it entails? Going to pick it up in an hour.

Mine never came back on since the reset. However, I have that notorious brake squeak when I accelerate, which I'm not sure is related or not.

Mine just came on tonight. I checked the OBC and rear pads still have 3k miles left and fronts have 19k miles. No other clues just that dang red car on lift and brake light on. From this tread it looks to be just the sensor? Taking the car in first thing to see whats up and maybe get the rear pads changed while I'm there. I wonder if its got anything to do with the new wheel/tires set that I just got installed in the morning....

has anyone had this problem recently? Very annoying....I really dont want to take my car to my dealer for something like this.

is there someway I can reset it myself? my pads are newish, had them swapped for low dust models about 10k miles ago. I know they are not worn out.
You cant reset it yourself. I had the same problem and the first time I brought it in, they did a reset. The second time, they asked bmw what to do and were told a few hours later to update the entire software (my car was there for the whole day).
Reason told by the SA was that the dealership (diff. one) didnt do the prep properly before selling me the car.

So at 30K kms, it would almost be impossible that the brakes will really need to be changed??

Mine just went on too but sounds like lots of you guys are saying its just a malfunction!!

I'll try the reset tomorrow, otherwise, I'll have to take it in and get re-prog...

Scared the crap outta me cuz I just boosted my wife's car and it came on after I started the car again after the boost!

I am having this happen to0. I am not bringing my car into the dealer for something like this (I am out of warranty). I am wondering, is there a way to bypass the sensor?

I have an appointment tomorrow for mine, the lift and lights have been on for 3 weeks. I switched my wheels yesterday, back to stock for the winter. I checked frt & rr pads and they look fine. So, I wonder what they are going to do tomorrow, I have 30k on my car, I kinda hope they still replace them, I have heard of a few guys having them replaced at much lower miles.

I'll check back in tuesday when I pick it up.

I officially HATE my bmw, can't not wait until my lease is up in 15 months and will be getting my STi back without all this electronic crap that goes wrong!!! URGH!!! worst 50 grand ever spent!!!!

Wow what a headache. I read this entire thread and it appears there is no DIY fix to get rid of the "red car on lift" and "parking brake light". This is a new car to me and it is out of warranty.

Anyone else have an idea? I wonder what the dealer will charge to clear this problem(or atleast temporarily clear the problem). Can someone fill me in on what Progman and 29.2 is?? I am guessing a software upgrade??

Thanks

Checked my rear brakes and the pads and sensor were worn pretty bad. Changed them out and the codes are now all gone...
