Heard Nasty Rumor About Prodcution Delay for Nav

Hey all,

I just got off the phone with a friend that knows someone working at a local dealership here in Washington state. He told me BMW is going to be delaying the Nav (E92) even further do to additional bugs in the software. Originally Nav was supposed to go into production in September, reportedly now it will be pushed back until late October or November which would push back a delivery date until January or February.

My buddy said this info is yet to go public from BMW. I have yet to confirm this info myself with my sales representative. I don't want to spread false rumors on a message board so please don't take this delay as fact until verified personally. Wonder if anyone knows anything though?

Well that will blow if it's true because that would effect e90's too!!! They're suppose to start production in September and mine is slated for week 36!!

This is true, adding real time traffic to the nav unit caused the delay.

This really suxs.... How many of you who have the E92 on order are going to wait until January or February of 07? Can lease rates go up if interests rates continue to climb?

I am in a tough dilemma, I truly need and would use the nav on a daily basis for my line of work. The real time traffic info would be clutch for the Seattle market (traffic is horrible). I probably will just wait, but it will truly be a test of patience...

My buddy who is looking into the same purchase says factory nav can be added later, supposedly the dash is modular and can be dropped in... I'm a little skeptical on this but I don't really know the answer. And even if the post Nav add on is true, the cost would be ridiculously more with installation is my guess...

factory NAV is such a waste. $400 for a nice garmin. Keep it in the glove compartment and pull it out when you really need it.

Nevermind, my buddy is either severly misinformed or he gets an A+ for f**ing with me... I finally spoke first hand with my dealer who double checked all the bulletins from BMW and there is no additional delays, cars go into production with Nav in September....

I suppose it is possible that he was misinformed, but I'm pretty sure it is the latter. I've got elaborate plan to get him back....that is going to make him feel real guilty after he learns that I cancelled my order all together... Then I'm going to ask him to have his contact (who supposedly told him about the delay) give me a call about placing a new order w/out nav...
Pay back can be a biatch!

That is exactly what I have been hearing as well. I had my contact double check this issue many times and there is no delay code at BMW's ordering system.... I am also hoping to take delivery of my coupe sometime in October (fingers crossed) in Munich!

I am really hoping those time frames he gave are for when the car will be arriving in the US or else I'd go crazy trying to decide whether I should wait or get the car without Nav!

I must be one of the few that hope its true then my non nav 335D order might come a tad earlier....

When in August 1999 I ordered my Boxster S it came a full three months early in Jan 2001. That date provided in nov 2000. Yep long wait time back then

Reason:mine was a manual and they had issues with the autos.

when you hear something from a non BMW employee, contact someone on these forums or a CA or SA that you might know, and have them talk to the area Marketing Manager or someone in product development to get a real answer. I've noticed that rumors spread very quickly on these forums,so you need to be able to separate fact from fiction and really don't want to make a poor decision on the model and the options......
