I have had one SES thrown on me and had my SCR cleaned and O2 sensor put back in but that is it and the engine is at 91K.

Nowhere close to your mileage (about to hit 40k) but only got one false SES so far.

I'm at 50k no problems as of yet aside from Nox sensors and the car feels like new. I'm expecting a failure though. I am a bms catch can and cleaned the intercooler. So much oil came out of the intercooler for the record. I'm hoping to manually do the throttle body and egr clean. If not I'll just sit on it until the failures approach. I'm sure one of the injectors are going to fail soon. In the mean time I'm looking at preventative maintenance.

well at 40k miles and had Nox replaced, mass air flow replaced, SCR, carbon build up, injectors, computer module replaced. All of that only from what I have been told, still did not see final work order of all that was done. Car at the dealers for last 5 months and they still fight with the errors coming on
am I one of the odd cases??? |

Nothing approaching the OP's mileage, but for the record, at 37k miles and just EGR recall, trunk latch replacement, and brakes worked on so far. No SES light yet (knock on wood).

I'm at 29K right now and haven't had any SES lights. Most of my issues with the car have been body-hardware related. (Squeaks/rattles/weak door holder/etc.)
Crossing fingers, but I figure 40K will bring changes. -Ed

At 60K mi and no issues, the original owner records show no issues and just service. Just did the EGR block too. The only issue I have with this and my previous BMW is the run flat tires and bent rims all the time. Small pothole and you are out of round.

32,000 miles and nothing. EGR recall and related programming. I'm a slow speed driver though as work is 4.2 miles away and 15 traffic lights. 9 months of warranty left

never had any problems till 49,979 mi, except for the EGR recall. Now at 60,700 mi.
Ever since then I take my car to the dealer every month due to different things going wrong. EGR, valve, MAF sensor, SCR, DPF, turbo, CBU. |

EGR recall certainly reduced the carbon build up rate. I assume the earlier it has been done the better.
Now only time will tell if incidence will reduce. Ultimately every engine with direct injection (gas or diesel) carries this problem.

I'm at 32k so far and nothing bad has happened *knock on wood.* The only "issue" I have is that my door/interior rattles when I turn. Like plastic is flexing or something. I don't know if it's cheaper materials or what but my 2008 e92 never did this.

37,000 miles and no SES light. Had EGR recall/program done around 21,000 miles.
Keeping my fingers crossed --- but I am a realist --- BMW didn't come out with the SIB for CBU and develop special cleaning tools and a process for just a few cars....BMW must believe this will be an issue with significant penetration. I am at a point though that given what I have in the car and would not get back to trade that it makes more sense to get an extended warranty and enjoy this machine --- I really can't find another ride that I enjoy as much --- maybe an M3 Sedan --- but even then it will cost me much more to get into it and pay more for the fuel.......sigh......

I did have the EGR inspected this spring after rough idling in the winter and there is buildup of about 1/8". EGR and throttle plate cleaned. Used additive from 21000km, and have had Evolve remap since 6500km. Going to block EGR soon and then clean the intake manifold.

Lol, as I have written this I headed out to wash my car after 550mi journey yesterday. Dropped by a friend's and see there is an oil leak. Of course, one of the turbo oil feed lines have burst. What a mess. Was 1 mi away from a dealer who said they will need to diagnose a problem and will take three days to fix. So I ordered the part and limped back home contributing some oil to the environment.

The better question is, who has a tune and has an issue or carbon build up? who does not? I've had a few zero adaptation injectors and such but other than that, nothing major. Oh and some logged SCR valves.

Egg on my face!!! Got in car to come home tonight and a lovely SES light stayed illuminated. Shall see what it shows. I knew it was only a matter of time! Again, love the car and want it to work right....will endure some degree of inconvenience.
