@SJ: great event, great result, go ahead with the mods until you get 460 hp, then post again!
As a member of the black e93 335ì msport Procede I am very very pleased of the (nearly) 400 hp. PS: what octanes you were running (euro)? Thanks!

340 RWHP
The Dyno was a Dyno Dynamics 4 Wheel Dyno. See here - http://www.motorworx.net/ Stefano, yes 460 - 480 is my target. Should JUST be achievable without anything too drastic - all on Tesco 99 Ron SJ |

Tony MIGHT have taken those sheets... most guys there weren't interested in WHP.
Given my figures that I checked we were really happy that the estimated Cranks were pretty accurate. We even insisted on 0 correction which could have gained us an additional 6 or so HP. Actually that's a good point we ran uncorrected for ALL the cars INCluding the NA ones. So all the non Turbo cars, the 320 SI, 130i etc should ACTUALLY be getting slightly HIGHER figures. We'll correct that omission for next time. SJ |

I wasn`t trying to say that the figures were out James, just that WHP is obviously more accurate and prob easier to see the benefit of mods. Well done on organising a top day.
I have a charger going on the M3 in the new year so hopefully will come along to the next one. |

Equally i wasn't being overly defensive, just filling in details...
biut annoyed at myself for forgetting to turn the correction back on for the NA cars. Would love a go in your SC m3 convert to compare SJ |

Some good results there chaps.
So if a standard 335D is pulling 310 horses, what the hell is a remapped car getting?

mine was 310bhp at the fly and 257 at the wheels. Pppernicks remmaped jobby was only 270 at the wheels. so im 13 off a re-mapped one anyway!! suggesting nicks stock one was prob pushing what 280 stock some must be better than others. Tonys and Ians were not far behind with 300!!!

The reason for calculating figures at the crank is because most people in the UK compare horespower and torque values with manufacturers' quoted figures - basically for pub bragging rights etc. Having a RWHP figure can be misleading for the unconverted, as they will think their car is down on power.
For next time, I will get both crank and wheel numbers, so a fuller picture can be shown. For the record, my 335i in standard tune developed 267bhp at the wheels

But just remember that all dyno's give different results - You could go to a different dyno tommorrow and it could show you putting out 320, equally as well it could show you putting out 300, it was a shame that Steve didnt have his remapped car there, I would be really interested to see to difference between a standard and a mapped car run on the same dyno. Wait till you have your map done, then you'll realise how much difference there is, and how much you'll appreciate that your dad sell tyres, because your rears will need changing quite frequently, as well as the blown orange bulb in your dash cluster. It would be good if you could take your car back there post-map, to see the difference

Of course, our calculated figures are assuming a percentage of transmission loss, and in reality that is always just an estimation, so all figures must be viewed objectively when comparing them to published manufacturers' figures. At the end of the day, what I wanted was to give fellow forum members a chance to find out how their cars were performing and whether they were within reasonable tolerance to what should be expected. For those looking at remaps (HotCoupe and Carlos for example) this will give a great baseline to see what the remap will produce. I think Carlos will be going back after Tuesday to see the results.. ?

Personally being in with the ford crowd for a long time with cossies and rs turbos which were getting dynos on diff days and different companies, they wernt that varied +/- 5-6bhp! I will go back there this week to get another run under the same conditions after the map!! Carlos

Also you must remember not every car made above BMW's quoted figure. Its not like they all ''over-read''
Tonys 335i made what most make in the US anyhow so seems pretty accurate!! a 330i made near enough stock bmw quoted power also, nicks 130i was 2bhp above stock.

Great day (morning) out Guys, firstly thanks to Tony and James for organising it all.
Pleased with my result and as previously mentioned,I think the reason for the difference between Carlos' and mine BHP figure was due to his extra mileage, and the fact he probably never understood the concept of 'running in'. I don't think the hole in my roof had anything to do with the difference by the way,if anything I was surprised,as I thought mine would be lighter Top marks to James, his 335i was truely awesome,on the dyno and out on the road, very capable driver too, although there was a horrible smell in my car when I left, probably made worse by my heated seats! I did change my trousers prior to our works evening do thankfully, and on that note my *ucking head hurts! Hopefully Carlos and I will return to Marlow and redo the test, the results will be fascinating. I have e-mailed BMW in Germany to ask if they coud send over my missing roof section,it's only fair the retest is done on a level playing field |
