Build a $16 steering column gauge holder (and Aquamist PWM gauge install) - pics

Many of you may have wanted to place one or two 52/60mm round gauges somewhere in the field of view and as we all know the e9x dash is not gauge friendly at all.

After much thought on how to place my Aquamist HFS-3 PWM gauge, I decided that the best place is on the steering column. The ATI ePod gauge pod for e90 steering column looks cheap to me, obstructs some gauges from the instrument cluster and has the word ATI written large on the pod, which ruins it's appearance. It also costs $100+.

So I found an extremely practical gauge pod named Vumaxx (www.vumaxx.com - plenty for sale on eBay for $15 or so). I comes with 5 mounting options and a rubber boot to cover the install assembly. It is also ball and socket so you can adjust the gauge position afer install. A carbon fibre look version is also available (not my style though).

The upper steering wheel column plastic trim costs $8 at Tischer, so I was not afraid to drill a 5mm hole in it to attach the ball assembly.

So there you have it It looks great to me (I will use some BMW rubber care spray on the rubber boot to make it look darker). It does not obstruct the instrument cluster in any way, and does not obstruct the turn signal stalk either. Of course, a second gauge holder can be mounted on the other side of the steering column if needed.

PS: The engine light is from the lack of primary catalysts.

+1 for stealth, but I really think that the meth gauge should be in the field of view...and you may need the ashtray

Sorry I didn't mean or attempt to hijack. Your install is clean!

Well you might use it for change. Either way, both are good ideas.

Not really, remember, my blinkers go on when spraying another advantage of a PROcede.

But yea, it's still in plain view and I'm a pilot so I'm used to scanning around a flight deck.
