I always forget about my exhaust! I put the Dinan exhaust on and saved about 20lbs. It was definitely a weight savings over the heavy stock exhaust.

Good thread!

Car at the track with full tank and no driver 3440.

Weight saving mods:
AE Exhaust / AR DP's 40 lbs
PSS tires 22 lbs ea
Morr VS8.2 19 lbs ea

Weight addition mods:
ER Competition FMIC/CP
Aquamist HFS-3

I'll be gutting the 335 once I get my next car. I'd love to be between 3000-3150lbs when done.

Can you get more specific info? I'd like to keep this as specific and factual as possible. Awesome car and build though!

Sweet! 3100lbs is pretty reasonable assuming you don't put in any type of cage. I'm going to be adding apx. 80lbs of steel for the roll cage this spring...kinda bummed about that.

Most real racebred cars should have 150lbs of steel for a roll cage; which makes getting around 3000lbs quite difficult.

Sorry I can't be more specific. It's been over 3 years since I installed the exhaust.

I will definitely concur with you about the additional weight the roll cage adds. I work on the Bimmerworks race team and we run an e92 335. It's gutted, but adding in all the race equipment and roll cage brought the weight back up to 3,300lbs!
We have to spend major money in CF body panels to drop weight.

Is the bimmerwerks team the same thing as the bimmerworld team? If so, I'm likely getting one of your BW wings this spring. You also have some E90 that you race too, right? What is that car? I'd love to pick your brain on a few things...particularly the roll cage mounting points for the E90..

I believe Bimmerworld's car is a different team. Their e90 is a 328i with a stage 3 intake manifold and a bunch of other sick mods. I can find more specifics if you'd like.

MFlow,

How much did your cage weigh? You are one of the few on here who has a full cage.

No, Bimmerworks is not the Bimmerworld team. I didn't have anything to do with the cage install. The car was together before I joined the team.

Are the curb weights of your guys' cars from a scale? On a corner balancing scale, my car was darn near 3700lbs without me in it. Basically a stock 335i with 6MT. I'm sure some options might add weight though - sunroof, winter package, even the motorized rear window shades etc.?

Dang. Yeah my weights are from an Intercomp Racing Products corner balancing scale...

On the same scales, a bone stock E90 335 6MT, w/2 gallons of fuel. All options except nav/shades weighed 3529....which makes sense.

Crazy... The only option I don't have is iDrive pretty much... These are on stock wheels on RE01Rs, PSS10s, and pretty much everything else stock. Half tank of gas.

I am wondering why that there isn't lighter aluminum radiators and cooling fans for these cars.

Weird, that's rather strange....the only thing that would explain that would be AWD...which you would obviously know about, and that would be more than 150lbs...

Ehhh, the weight of the radiator is negligble, and the fans on the car are already plastic and very light....

Yes. I weighed my car at the track.
3,270lbs with 3/4 tank of gas

Exact Rim Weight for 197 style

Anyone knows how much 197 style wheel weighs? Just rim weight for each front and rear..

Are they heavier or lighter than 189 style wheels?

I didn't weigh just the wheels alone, but switching from the stock 162s to the Advan RS (18x8.5F with 255/35 and 18x9.5R with 265/35) I saved 10lbs per wheel/tire combo. Yes, stock 162s are heavy!

That's a pretty huge difference from the weight that I just posted above. Could it be a difference in scales?

My butt dyno tells me I can feel a difference at about ~250-300 lbs weight savings (car only feels slower with 2 more people in it)
Bang for the buck, the most cost effective way I can think of to shed weight, while maintaining a full interior, is to replace the following:

Forged Rims (~25 UNSPRUNG lbs depending on brand)
Seats (~60 lbs)
Exhaust & DP (~40 lbs)
Battery (~30 lbs)
Self Diet (~10 lbs)

I think that would get me right around 250 ish.
With today's gas prices hovering near $5 a gallon, maybe these mods would even pay itself off after a few years

Only problem... anybody know how I could install fixed position recaros into my E92?? How would people get into the backseats?!?
