What happened to Topgear USA?

I have noticed topgear USA has not been on in weeks-anyone know what happened to it? Or did it change days and times?

They're back in February (according to finalgear.com). Should ask the mods to move this thread to off-topic, btw.

Assuming the show doesn't get canceled during the off season. I can't recall the number of times the show was canceled even before the first show was aired - was it 2 or 3 times?

I haven't watched it since the 4th show after it started. I usually watch the UK version on the BBC

Agreed, although it improved a little bit toward the end of the first season. The problem is it will always be compared to the UK version which is 1000000 times better!

The spin offs have failed in every country they have tried it in.

I could care less if they cancel it...such a dissappointment compared to UK. Beyond corny.

Don't get me wrong as I am not saying it was stellar and I agree its downfall is people were looking for another UK jeremy, C slow and richard but that was never going to happen. However I will watch almost any car show, even the adam corolla mess that is canceled!

I even watch two men garage and horsepower TV for some cheap thrills! I thought tanner was much improved this season and the chemistry between the lads was much more "loose" and not so forced which I think was a big problem. I like the fact tanner can actually drive professionally so it gives a degree of credit to his reviews that even topgear UK cannot give unless its the stig who does not review.

I do not like the US topgear track however and that country hick (forgot his name) he is just a bumpkin and really needs to go

The US show is just too much of a bite on the UK version. No reason to have two shows which are nearly identical in format. Plus these hosts just really have no personality and little on air tv experience.

None of them seem too entertaining.

Can't really compare laptimes since it's not the same track.

Just sad...

Yeah...all imitators are lame. Top Gear UK is the only one I watch.

If Top Gear USA tried to do something original and fresh instead of doing a half-assed copy of the UK version, it would probably do pretty good.

Bad acting, not funny - everything seems forced. And they rarely get any cool cars - mostly beaters and pickup trucks and something midmarket from time to time. Where are the high end and super cars?

The season did end much better than it started however, but they seem more interested in stupid challenges than actually talking about cars.

Top Gear UK is the only car show worth watching. All other imitations fall miserably short.

The show does seem like more of an attempt to copy a proven formula for profit than an attempt to create a good product. I do recall that even older versions of Top Gear UK seemed to have less of a fluid interaction between the hosts and things improved as the episodes continued so hopefully the US show does the same.

If you gave the US version 17 seasons (or whatever the UK show is on now), I'd be willing to bet that it'd be just as good. Do you really expect the US hosts to have the same kind of chemistry after only a handful of episodes? It's getting better and people need to give it a chance IMO.

As far as the cheese factor, the UK version is just as cheesy if not more with their English humor. The UK show just has a bigger budget to add more 'WOW' factor to disguise the cheese.

It's a brand new show on History channel. Not a tried and tested show with ~130 episodes on BBC. The budgets are light years apart right now. Of course it's going to seem a bit half-assed. It's still entertaining to watch them wreck beaters in stupid challenges.

IMO, the more car shows we have the better. People just need to give it a chance and not hold it to the same standard just yet. Is it really that hard to watch TWO shows about cars?

I think I stopped watching TopGear US after couple of episodes in season 2.
But I heard that TopGear US is going to play in UK while TopGear UK on vacations.

You can ask for more time if you're trying something new. When you'er just doing a copy you don't deserve the time.

It's not that simple though. You are dealing with human hosts and a vastly different budget. They're not assembling Volkswagen Beetles in Mexico.
