N55 JB Stage 1 - Another happy customer

Easy install. Took me about 45 minutes. Most difficult part was figuring out which way the first sensor unclips. Then the rest were easy. No check engine lights and I've been testing it out at part throttle and full throttle all morning.

Power is immediate and most noticeable in the midrange. Where as before, I would rarely hear the blow-off when I let off on the gas, now I can hear a distinct blow-off when I let off.

Overall drive ability has not changed.

On a side note, my buddy with a E60 550i (muffler back exhaust, flash tune) wanted to see how we would compare. We've never run before, fyi. From 2nd through the top of third, I'm definitely pulling a couple car lengths on him. I shut it down at the beginning of 4th. I think I should have the DSC off (DTC on) next time though. I have a feeling the traction control pulls a little power on the shift.

Comments welcome.

The standard 2.75 over stock that it comes with. I haven't tried datalogging yet or trying a +4 boost. I think I have the older DME (November 2011 build) anyways.

Thanks Andrew. I'm quite happy with 2.75 actually. The rush when the boost comes on fast actually makes me wanna lift. lol

Hey, quick question. I noticed in another thread you guys had a chargepipe break on an N55 with a tune. What psi were you guys running? Just curious.

on 93 danny? Lets run it one day

Btw its +6 over stock boost levels which seem to fluctuate a ton with our hot weather. I have seen it run only 11-12 psi with +5

I noticed last night that colder air temps make the car seem to run even harder. Yesterday day time temps were in the mid-70s. Evening was low 60's. This is just getting more and more fun.

Does anyone know what kinds of fueling increases the tune makes to compensate for the increased boost? Is it 10% over stock? 20%? Just curious what it is roughly.

Does the N55 Stage1 have the same features as the N54 Stage4?

How long will it take you to remove the system when bringing your car in for a routine service/oil change/etc?

Thanks!

If your car was built in Nov 2010 you have the 2.4x DME. My car was updated at the VPC in October 2010.

So go to 4 and be happy!

You know, I've heard varying accounts of this. Do you think that some cars before my build date had it done and some didn't? I guess I could just go get a key read to double check right?

Am I right to assume you don't need the absolute newest DME (I guess it's 2.43.1) to run +4? Anything newer than 2.4x.1 will work?

Anyone know if I get a key read, do they need to inspect the actual car? Or is it literally just reading the information on the key?

Dont play the guessing game.. Log your car on map 6 if you get stock boost values your fine and can push it it up to 5 psi on 93.

Then run 4 or so. Bms is using Nos octane booster I havent tried that brand yet personally only torco but it should let you go up to 5-6 for those track days.

Someone on other forum was running +6 for a week on 91 ! And got no check engine lights. I wouldnt try that though

congrats! I'm loving mine too.

After logging on map 6 and confirming stock boost, I set boost for +4 for one week, and just moved it to +5... I'm loving it! No CEL, no loss of power, nothing.

I'm extremely pleased and can't wait for the new hardware to be installed (cough cough Matt, cough cough).

Good luck with it!

Edit: Im in NY, so I stick with 93

You can ask your dealer to do a key read for you. That's what I did.
