That's what mine did though it was far more evident on the right hand pipe the oil smell if its the same as mine is quite noticeable and lingers too, I'd 100% get it checked out but the steps you are taking will I'm sure help, at the same time check your rocker cover gasket too though this won't promote oil out the tail pipes mine was leaking

Im the service manager at A1, so it'll be little ole me you'll see on Saturday morning, I'll get Alan on it who knows exactly what went on with my car. He'll know exactly what to go for one thing though is the investigation will take a good hour and a half to go through I'm afraid but you'll get to see everything as and when it happens.

If you go to burgertuning.com there are loads of tutorials also they have a forum - n54tech with even more info. Whatever route you take you must have a way of logging each map at WOT, then adjusting. I also HIGHLY recommend a back end flash, there are plenty OTS but if get in touch with a specialist mapper then you can log - remap - log etc etc. All you need to do is read the ECU to get the original .bin which can be adjusted to suit your specific mods and car !! This can be all done over email - you will need a BT cable tho !!
