I'm gonna try the hold position theory, I'm grasping at straws at this point!

Hey I brought up this issue to a new E90Post member who also happens to be a BMW Master technician and Shop Foreman. See this thread. http://www.e90post.com/forums/showth...74#post1055474

Also anyone else be sure to post back here if you get any fixes on this either from the dealer or your own methods, sharing is a good thing.

Thanks! Maybe he will find an answer. For the sake of continuity, do you think you could direct him to post his findings here?

Bimmerforlife,

I have the actual 6fl factory option. Came with cables and the pouch that mounts under the armrest. I have been using it almost exclusively over the last 6 days since I picked up the car and have had NO glitches whatsoever. Have had a few minor bluetooth issues but resolved those by adding Jetware Mobile software to my smart phone.

I have not tried to use the iPod with the hold button NOT on HOLD. I love it - except for the fact that yoyu have to scroll through the entire alpahbet for artist or album. They should have added the alphabetic letter lookup like on the phonebook menu. Maybe a software update in the future.

hey, I have a few questions for you guys...

how much does this thing cost... on option list it says its $400, on ipodyourbmw.com it says it is $150...

anybody have a picture (video would be better) of how you operate the iPod on the STOCK radio? I want to know if it is really annoying to find an artist with only 2 lines of text as opposed to a full LCD.

Does anything shoe up on the HUD of artist name/title?

Thanks in advance

Good to know that it's been working great for you, so to clarify you are using it with your iPod in the hold position or not in the hold position?

Did you see this post for quicker scrolling, http://www.e90post.com/forums/showpo...&postcount=485

I did this, it takes awhile to change everything in genre on itunes but I've been told it helps a great deal in time scrolling, I'll find out soon when I get my car.

I use my iPod with it in the hold position more often than not and it still switches back to FM. It switches back to FM with it not hold position too.

6FL (factory option) is $400. The "$149 and up plus installation" is dealer installed. For E9x, dealer installed option is something like $319 plus installation (installation can run $250-300 and more.

As jmonier said... Apples <> Oranges.

There was a member who posted some info on using 6FL with the standard radio and non-iDrive, but the illustrations were limited.

Your salesman is right about the cable. It is a "Y" cable for iPod and is provided by the dealership when you get the car.

First off, I want to thank you guys for putting together this thread. I worked with a great salesman and dealer, but he didn't know about the ipod cable, and when I got the car they gave me a simple USB extension cable (USB in/USB out, about 10 inches long). I sent him the link to this post, and he was able to get me the right cable in no time, and now he's ready for the next customer. Thanks!!

Second, I'll report that I've been running my ipod (60gig/video) for several days without problems switching over (April production 335 w/idrive). I don't use the hold switch.

Welcome! Yes, once you get past the background noise (some of which is quite fun) this is a highly informative forum!

Hi

Just thought I'd let everyone know. My dealer has had a response from BMW UK head office about the FM Switching problem. They have stated that they are not aware at all of this fault ( i.e I am the first to report it ?! ) and they have recommended my dealer take the car in for a 'PUMA' test ( not sure what this stands for but it basically involves a few BMW technicians running some diagnostics on it for a couple of days ).

So once I've booked it in and get some answers ( if nobody finds out anything sooner that is ) then I will post them.

Rgds

Dr M.

Got some information on this. This is a known problem per a bulletin although there is no fix listed yet. The only thing it says is to select the device as the entertainment source manually and then disconnect/reconnect the device if necessary.

I would imagine this will be fixed with software in the future. Hope this helps guys.

Out of interest, my stereo has still not switched from the iPod and my hold switch is turned on.

Also, BImmerforlife, did you find a solution to your disorganised albums when sorting by your repositioned genre field?

My solution was to reformat my iPod, it was a PITA but since I had about 900 songs in my itunes library it didn't take too long to re-load all my tunes. After that everything worked perfect. Again the only problem I has was with the artwork not matching to the song after I changed my genre field but once I reformatted everything was back to normal. No big deal in the long run, your procedure worked, my genre field is all ready to try out this bugger, my cars sb on the ship soon and arrive at dealer first part of July.

Back to the iPod problem with switching to FM-I can't figure out why it's affecting some and not others-what is the common denominator?
